! 110 MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BRYAN LIBRARY BOARD
March 20, 1985
1 . On the 20 gf March 1985, the Library Board of the City
of Bryan , Texas, convened in regular session in the regular
place in the Reading Area of the Library gt 5
with the following members present:

Also present were Mrs. Clara B. Mounce, City Librarian; Mrs.
Jerilynn A. Williams, Associate City Librarian; Dr. John
Blackburn, Operations Manager of Community Services; Frances
Nelson , new Secretary for the Library.
3. There were no visitors.
4. The minutes were approved as mailed.
5. Mrs. Mounce went over the monthly statistics. She
reported that for February '85 statistics were up in all
areas compared to February '84.
6. There were no committee reports.
7. Mrs. Mounce introduced Frances Nelson , new secretary
for the library. Organizational chart for the library has
been revised (copy included in board packets) .
Mrs. Mounce and Mrs. Williams briefed Library Board members
and answered questions regarding the proposal from 3M for a
security system which would be funded in its first expenses
by the Friends of the Library. Mrs. Mounce stressed the
system would be used as a reminder to check out books before
4" leaving the library; not for accusing patrons of theft. It
was suggested that the county be asked to pay for the targets
(used for the system) to be put in the law books. Mrs. Allen
| questioned if the College Station branch would have 3M
system. Mrs. Mounce suggested that it be made a part of the
contract with the City of College Station if a branch library
is put there. Mr. Madeley moved for support of the 3M
security system. The motion was seconded by Mrs. Pruitt.
Mrs. Mounce informed the board of her visit from Mrs. Irma
Cauley regarding a job program for juvenile delinquents.
Mrs. Mounce announced names of library personnel who received
PRIDE Awards this month. These included: Mrs. Jerilynn
Williams, Associate City Librarian; Roberta Olsen , Children 's
Librarian; Mary Woelfel , Adult Circulation Clerk; and Mary
Sue Sommerfeld , Reference Librarian. She also announced that
Roberta Olsen made a presentation at Texas A&M, March 20,
1985, on "Puppetry in the Classroom" . Public Access Program
computer orientation is scheduled for March 25, 26, and 28,
1985. Bryan Public Library 's Central Texas Library System
membership has been renewed. CTLS held a library automation
workshop at the Bryan Library on March 14, 1985. Mrs. Mounce
announced the Friends of the Library Annual Meeting will be
on April 16, 1985 at 7: 00 p. m. There will be a slide
presentation, musical group and recognition of volunteers.
Board members are invited. She also announced that the
Friends newsletter should be ready by the 3rd or 4th of
April . Mrs. Mounce acknowledged that Judge McDonald' offered
to give his father 's memorabilia to the library.

�— 9A. Mrs. Mounce went through an Annual Report Comparison,
explaining the increases and decreases of 1983-84 as compared
to 1982-83. Dr. Blackburn suggested , in order to increase
circulation, that we try to get a contract with other
counties for the Bryan Library to provide free services to
the contracting county 's citizens.
10. There were no requests for agenda items.
11 . The meeting was adjourned at 6: 35 p. m.
