The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The book orders were approved. However, the Librarian reported at this point that they would not be sent until it was determined whether there was money enough in the budget for their purchase, or until we receive possible LSCA Title I funds. Most of the City book budget had been spent early in the fiscal year in order that we might -have as many new books in the. collection as possible when we moved into • I the new building. Reportp were given on the nine point program. Mrs. McIntyre said the first family night at the movies would .be on January 29th in the auditorium Of the Library and that she had already gotten out publicity to all news media. - Other programs which would be held in the auditorium would begin after the sound system had been installed. The Librarian reported that Mr. Sandlin had just called to say that all parts 'of it had arrived except .the antenna and the microphone and that he was looking for someone to install it. Dr. Crawford reviewed- the dedication .exercises, and all members of the Board agreed that everything had gone remarkably well:, the weather perfect, the crowd very good, out of town dignitaries impressively numerous, the dedication speech by Senator Yarborough exactly suitable and well received, ,and the reception given by the Friends of the Library beautiful. Mrs. Richardson reported the receipt of many gifts and expressions of congratualtions from library' vendors, patrons and friends. She said she would acknowledge all gifts. IPIn new business first consideration was taken of the stairs. The Librarian reported that complaints had been many and constant from mothers who felt that the metal -costs were spaced too far apart and that there was constant danger of a small child's falling through them. Mr. Peurifby pre- sented a sketch he, in consultation with the Architect, had made, which showed the placing of a DI x 4” walnut bar horizontally across the metal posts. Judge McDonald moved the Board's approval of the Architect's re- commendation and request that the City Manager get the Architect and con- tractors to proceed with it. The Librarian was instructed to send Mr. Mistovich a resolution of appreciation from the Board for the many years duration of this highly successful radio I/ f 11 hour and its great benefit to the Library Program.
