HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/14/1969 - Regular Agenda Packet - Bryan College Station Library System Advisory Board May 14, 1969 The Carnegie Library Board of Trustees held its regular meeting on May 15, 1969 at 5:00 P. M. in the Library. Mr. Edsel Burkhart, President of the Board, presided. Other members present were Mrs. Dan Hudson, Dr. Paul Crawford, Mr. W. D. Dunn, Dr. Tom King, and Mr. Bookman Peters. Mrs. Richardson, the Librarian, was present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved as written. In an examination of the monthly statistics, Dr. Crawford asked that the minutes reflect note of a 29% increase in circulation over April of last year. The book orders were presented by the book committee and discussed generally. Mrs. Hudson moved this be approved. Mr. Dunn seconded the motion which passed. Report by the Building Committee was that construction was according to schedule and that Mr. Sandlin expected that completion and move would be in 11, September. Mr. Burkhart, Mrs. Richardson, and Dr. Crawford reported on the Trustees Workshop of May 5th. The workshop was conducted by Mrs. Sandra Gray in the Medallion Room. Total attendance was 17. Out of town Trustees and librarians attending were from Rockdale and Marlin. Comment was made by the Librarian and Bryan Trustees on the enthusiasm of those attending and the excellence of the general discussion and exchange of ideas at the end of the session. Friends of the Carnegie Library attended and served refreshments during the day. The Board asked the Librarian to write a letter to Mrs. Russell, President of the Friends, to thank them for this courtesy. There was a detailed discussion of the 1969-1970 budget. Mr. Burkhart named the cuts Sandlin and the Librarian had agreed to after the submission of the budget to the City Manager. Mr. Sandlin after reviewing the cuts in Capital Outlay with Dr. Crawford, agreed to put back in the amount of $2,000, $1500 for the purchase of an art lending collection for 110 children and $500 for slides. Dr. Crawford moved that visual aid equipment represented by Texas Education Aids Association (Motiva) be purchased from funds budgeted for the purpose in the 1968-1969 budget be approved by the Board. This item has been presented to the City Council and approved by them. Mrs. Hudson seconded this motion and it passed. Mrs. Richardson introduced a case of books in the evaluation of $100 taken by a patron over a period of time which the Library has been unable to re- trieve by letter, phone, personal interview, or messenger. She asked the Board's permission to turn the matter over to Chief Ellisor. Mr. Peters moved that the Librarian be authorized henceforth to turn over such cases of the retrieval of public property to the police. Mr. Dunn seconded this motion which passed.
