HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/09/1969 - Regular Agenda Packet - Bryan College Station Library System Advisory Board Is Jul 1 6 July 9 9 9 The Carnegie Library Board of Trustees held its annual meeting on July 9, 1969 at 5:00 p. M. in the Library. Dr. Paul Crawford, President of the Board, presided. Present were Mr. W. D. Dunn, Mr. David Garcia, Judge W. T. McDonald, and Dr. T. T. Walton, Jr. Mrs. Hazel Richardson, the Librarian, was present as was Mr. Fred Sandlin, the City Manager. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The statistics were examined. Mr. Dunn moved that the book order be approved. Dr. Walton seconded the motion which passed. Mr. Dunn moved that the book order be approved. Dr. Walton seconded the motion which passed. 110 Judge McDonald reported that he had collected the $2000 check, Brazos County's appropriation for Carnegie Library for the year 1969. A discussion ensued. The history of the County's appropriation over the years was re- viewed. Dr. Crawford pointed out that 25% of the Library's active borrowers lived outside the city limits of Bryan. Dr. Walton moved that the Board should consider appearing before the County Commissioners Court at its budget meeting to request a yearly appropriation which would be represent- ative of the County's participation in the use of the Carnegie Public Library. The motion was seconded and passed. Mr. Sandlin announced the appointment by the Mayor of two representatives from the City Council to the Library Building Committee. They are Mr. Bell and Mr. Herrera. A tentative meeting of the Building Committee was set for 411 Thursday evening at 7:30 in the Council Room of the Utilities Building. 2 Judge McDonald moved that the $2000 appropriation from Brazos County be used for the purchase and installation of the sound system in the audi- torium of the new building. A meeting would be set up with Mr. Peurifoy, Chairman of the Library Building and Grounds Committee, and Mr. W. H. Kellet, Jr. to prepare the necessary plans and specifications for its purchase and installation. The motion was seconded and carried. The President of the Board, Dr. Crawford, announced his standing com- mittee appointments as follows: Books and Magazines Dr. T. T. Walton, Jr. Mrs. John McIntyre Mr. W. D. Dunn Budget and Finance Judge W. T. McDonald Mrs. John McIntyre Mr. David Garcia IlkBuilding and Grounds Mr. R. L. Peurifoy Judge W. T. McDonald Mr. W. D. Dunn Library Extension Mr. W. D. Dunn Mr. David Garcia Dr. T. T. Walton, Jr. Mr. Sandlin reported the progress of the site work at the new library. The old railroad buildings are being torn down. He believes the street will be finished by September 1 and that we will be able to move in sometime during that month. The Librarian advised the Board of the receipt and anticipated receipt of monies to the library as follows: I 3 From Brazos County - $2,000 Rountree Fund interest - $316.96 • Henderson Memorial Fund interest - $51.07 Anticipated from Business & Professional Women's Club - $1,500 Anticipated from Woman's Civic League over a three year period - $1,000 Mr. Bookman Peters - $50.00 yearly gift to buy books for Bookman Peters Management Collection Received from Friends of the Library $500 to buy the McGraw Hill Encyclopedia of World Art On personnel changes the Librarian announced that Mrs. Beverley Baur would return to the staff on August 1st as Library Assistant in the Rountree Room. Under unfinished business: the Librarian read the proposed resolution of appreciation to be given to the retiring board members. The board ap- proved it and instructed the librarian to have copies of it appropriately printed by Mrs. Wallace of Wallace Printing Company. It was disclosed that Texas Educational Aids had delivered Motiva Theatre too late to have it paid for from the 1968-1969 budget. Judge Mc Donald moved that an additional appropriation for Motiva Theatre be made in the 1969-1970 budget. The motion was seconded and carried. Under new business Dr. Crawford presented his nine point "program for making Bryan, Texas the home of the most dynamic public library in the United States." He described each item in the program and made tentative assignments for some of them as follows: 1. Cultural Seminar - - Dr. Walton and Judge McDonald 2. Art lending collection for children - - - Mrs. Richardson 3. Family night at the Library - - _ 4. Floral arrangements from Garden Clubs - - - Mrs. Richardson 4 • 5. Business Men's Suite - - - Mr. Sandlin 6. Record collection - - - Mr. Garcia 7. Saturday afternoon at the opera - - - 8. Continuous slide series - U. S. A. - - - Mr. Dunn 9.
