Home My WebLink About01/08/1969 - Regular Agenda Packet - Bryan College Station Library System Advisory Board January 8, 1969 The Carnegie Library Board held its regular meeting on January 8, 1969 at 5:00 P. M. in the Library. Mr. Edsel 'Burkhart, President of the Board, presided. Others present were Mrs. Dan Hudson, Dr. Paul Crawford, Dr. Tom B. King, and Mr. C. B. McGown, Jr. Mrs. Hazel Richardson, the Librarian, was present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Note was made by Dr. Crawford of a 30% increase in circulation over December of last year. Dr. King moved the book orders be approved. Mrs. Hudson seconded the motion which passed. There was no report from the Building Committee other than that the building seemed to be progressing according to schedule. In the Librarian's report to the Board she noted her appointment to the State Library Examining Board. The Examining Board is composed of five membersi the State Librarian, the Librarian of the University of Texas, and three others. Compensation: Travel expenses. Functions: To pass upon the qualifications of persons desiring to become county librarians. The term of office is for six years. The Librarian also reported her election as an honorary member to the reactivated Hood's Texas Brigade Association. Regular membership is tendered only to direct or collateral descendants of members of the Brigade. Honorary memberships are limited to twenty-five and are tendered to persons who have made an outstanding contribution to Texas Confederate History, have contributed to or assisted in the work of the Confederate Research Center, or have contributed financially to the Center. The Librarian 41111 expressed the opinion that her own membership was on the basis of her life long interest in the Hood's Brigade Association and the fact that Carnegie Library's greatest historical significance is that the veterans of Hood's Brigade had held their annual meetings in the Library from 1919 through 1933. A general discussion of the burglary to the Library on the weekend of January 4th was held. A small amount of cash, not more than five dollars, was taken from the loan drawer. This was money collected for dupli- cating. The charge plate book which was in the drawer beside the cash was taken and the charge plates thrown on the ground under the windows. The book the plates were in has not yet been recovered. There was -- continued from the December meeting -- a discussion of the proposed library legislation, namely the Library Systems Act, which AI/0 the Texas Library Association hopes to bring to the Texas Legislature in 1969. Dr. King moved that the Library Board go on record as endorsing the proposed Act. Mr. McGown seconded the motion which passed. The meeting adjourned at 6:00 P. M.
