College Station Senior Advisory Committee Regular Meeting Monday, December 14, 2009 College Station Teen Center 1520 Rock Prairie Rd. 10:00am MINUTES Members Present: E.E. Bums, Joyce Davis, Jon Denton, Anne Hazen, Dorothy Hernandez, Colleen Risinger, Jean Roberts, Dorthea Robinson, Ron Silvia and Joanna Yeager Members Absent: Jack Hernandez Visitors Present: Robert Meyer Staff Present: Marci Rodgers, Senior Services Coordinator I. Call to order The meeting was called to order at 10:05 a.m. by Ron Silvia, Chairman II. Welcome guests and visitors Chairman, Silvia welcomed Robert Meyer and Councilman, Larry Stewart. III. Approval of minutes from regular meeting on November 30,2009 E.E. Burns made the motion to approve the minutes. Dorothy Hernandez seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. IV. Discussion, consideration and possible action with Council Members,Larry Stewart and Dennis Maloney concerning senior programs and meeting space. Councilman Dennis Maloney was unable to attend. Councilman, Larry Stewart did attend the meeting. Mr. Stewart was open to questions by members of the committee. Councilman Stewart listed some of the current issues the council is dealing with. Committee members discussed concern for better communication with the council and the point was made that members on the Senior Advisory Committee will continue to work for a future senior center. Appreciation was expressed to Mr. Stewart for attending the meeting. V. Report, discussion,and possible action concerning meeting with Joanna Yeager and Ronnie Gipson,Area Agency on Aging Director, on 501 c3 status. (report attached)Joanna Yeager reported visiting with Mr. Ronnie Gipson and shared her report with the committee. Anne Hazen made the motion to report information to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting in January on plans to form a steering committee that will lead the process in forming a non-profit organization. Jon Denton seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. VI. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator report regarding upcoming programs and events. (report attached) VII. Presentation, possibleaction and discussion on future agenda items: A Committee member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been given. A statement of specific factual information oar the recitation of existing policy a be i c . Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting. • Report on the January Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting with Ron Silvia and Joanna Yeager • Ask council members to next meeting.
