Members Present: E.E. Burns, Joyce Davis, Rick Heaney, Laura Holmes, Edgar Jones,
Robert Meyer,Neal Nutall, Donald Pirwitz, Raymond Reed, Colleen Risinger, Jean
Roberts, Doreen Todd and Joanna Yeager
Members Absent: Dorothy Hernandez, Jack Hernandez, Ron Silvia and Yvonne Stevens

I. Call to order The meeting was called to order at 10:04am by Robert Meyer,
Chairman
II. Hear visitors Annie Williams was introduced by Marci Rodgers as the new
manager for Lincoln Center Senior Program
III. Welcome and introduction of new members Jean Roberts was introduced as a
new member to the committee. The committee introduced themselves.
IV. Approval of minutes from regular meeting on June 25, 2007 Rick Heaney
made the motion that the minutes be approved. Joanna Yeager seconded the
motion. The motion passed.
V. Presentation, discussion and possible action on LifeintheBrazos.com website
by Lee James and a website for seniors Marci Rodgers introduced Lee James.
Mr. James described the history and goals of his website, LifeintheBrazos.com.
The mission of the website is to promote people, community, organizations and
businesses in the Brazos Valley. The website has a senior section and Mr. James
shared many ideas for improving the information and discussed the need for writers
to the senior section. The website started last September and receives a quarter of a
million visitors a month.
VI. Discussion, consideration and possible action on proposed Senior Advisory
Committee Sub-Committees A list of three proposed sub-committees was
distributed to the committee. The sub-committees included Senior Center,
Programs and Long Range Planning. Members were asked to consider which
committee they would like to serve on. Ray Reed, Rick Heaney and Joanna Yeager
volunteered to serve on the Senior Center Sub-Committee. Don Pirwitz, Joyce
Davis and Laura Holmes volunteered to serve on the Programs Sub-Committee.
Members that were not in attendance will be contacted by Marci Rodgers and asked
to serve on the committee they are most interested in. The sub-committees were
asked to meet prior to the next regular meeting of the Senior Advisory Committee
and establish how often they should meet and select a representative to report in for
the sub-committee.
VII. Presentation of a statement from the Senior Advisory Committee to the City
Council on the proposed uses and activities of a Community—Senior Center
Ray Reed presented a rough draft of a statement to City Council from the Senior
Advisory Committee stating support for the center and for their consideration on
the name and usage of the proposed senior center. Ray Reed made the motion that
Marci Rodgers write a letter to the City Council encouraging the wording on the
Bond issue for the Senior Center to be identified as College Station Community-
Senior Center. E.E. Burns seconded the motion. The motion passed.
VIII. Discussion, consideration and possible action on Senior Services Coordinator
report regarding upcoming programs and events. (Report attached)
IX. Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A
Committee Member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been
given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing
policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place
the subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting.
X. Next meeting: Monday, August 27, 2007

Lincoln Center has a new senior manager. Ms. Annie Williams started on June 28, 2007
The City of College Station will be hosting the USA/ASA Girls 18 & Under Fast Pitch
National Championships from July 29--August 5,2007. During the tournament the Parks &
Recreation Dept. would like to show off our TEXAS HOSPITALITY. We are seeking volunteer
ambassadors from the community and different city departments to help operate a hospitality tent
at Central Park and Veterans Park during the tournament. Hour of operation will be from 8am-
9pm, Monday, 7/30/07 through Friday, 8/3/07. The desire is to place two people, per hour, per
location to assist in answering questions about the community, i.e. a good place to eat, good
place to shop, attractions.
August 1- Computer Club for Seniors
The topic for Wednesday, August 1 is Computers 101 presented by KBTX Meteorologist,
Rodney Harris.
August 2 - Free Beginning Computer Class
The class meets on Thursdays, August 2, 9, 16 & 23 from 10:00-11:OOam at the Center for
Regional Services. Call 764-6371 to register for the class.
August 9 - Free Movie at The George Bush Library
The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum will show Kings Row staring Ronald Reagan
on Thursday, August 9th at 7:00pm Free popcorn and cokes are served from 6:OOpm-7:OOpm.

August 15- Exploring History Lunch Lecture Series
. The topic on Wednesday, August 15th is "The History of Aviation" Lunch is by reservation and
is served at 11:30am. Donations are appreciated. Please call 764-3491 to make your reservation.
August 27th- Look for the Fall Xtra Education Brochure
Fall Classes for seniors will be listed in the Xtra Education Brochure which will be available the
week of August 27th. Registration for all Xtra Education classes begins on Tuesday, September
4, 2007 at the College Station Parks and Recreation office
Senior Fall Fest is scheduled for Thursday, October 18, 2007 (Raindate: Oct. 25th) from
4:OOpm-7:OOpm at the American Pavilion. The first planning meeting was held on 7-10-07 with
Bob Meyer, Ruth Morales, Anita Ramirez, Joanna Yeager, Colleen Risinger, Doreen Todd, Jean
Salsbury and Marci Rodgers.The next planning meeting is Thursday, August 30th at The Parks
and Recreation Department World Headquarters at 10:00am.
2007 Citizen's Police Academy The 10-week program begins Sept. 4, meeting every Tuesday
night from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. Learn about everything from investigation techniques to traffic
stops. To register, contact Master Officer David Falwell, 218-8955.
