HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/14/2002 - Regular Minutes - Lincoln Recreation Center Advisory Committee CITY OF COLLEGE STATION LINCOLN RECREATION CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE Regular Meeting Agenda Monday January 14, 2002 Lincoln Recreation Center 1000 Eleanor Street 5:45 PM 1. Call to order—The meeting was called to order by Chair person Carolyn Williams at 5:45 p.m. 2. Hear visitors- There were no visitors present. 3. Pardon — Consider requests for absences of members from meeting- All Committee members were present. 4. Approval of minutes from Regular December 10, 2001 Lincoln Recreation (LRC) Committee Meeting- The Minutes from December 10, 2001 committee meeting were approved with one noted correction. 5. Report, Discussion of potential advisory committee appointees- Jackson updated the committee on this topic. New members should be on board in February. 6. Report, Discussion on private school rentals- Discussion ensued regarding the use of the LRC for private rentals. Jackson advised that the continued abuse of the LRC rental policies would result in loss of privileges. Jackson further stated that he would try to reinstate more use for community users. 7. Report(s): Treasurer- Clemmons reported no change in the balance. Motion was made and passed for the presentation of a Gift Certificate to be redeemed at Oxfords Street for Rev. Melvin Cooper, Guest Speaker at the Martin Luther King (MLK) Program. Adolescent Outreach Subcommittee —Thomas advised that she and Jackson discussed subcommittee plans and future projects. —Public Relations Subcommittee- E. Williams advised the committee on the promotion of the MLK Program, i.e, television, radio, etc. "' Education Subcommittee- Clemmons advised that the nextiTAAS Buster Rally would be held at the LRC on March 2, 2002 from 12:00-3:00 p.m. —Facilities Subcommittee — Jackson discussed center renovations, approved increases in budgets and upcoming construction dates. LRC Supervisor's Report- LanceJackson —Jackson informed the committee, that he, along with additional members of the LRC staff would be attending the National ParksI Services Recreation 2002creation ssociation®s Prevention rvi Services through Recreationtraining school in Austin, Texas for approximately 3 days. Jackson provided information regarding training school topics and types of programs. 8. The lady got stung at the Hilton during the day and did not know that she was highly allergic to bee stings. She started have trouble breathing and the aquatic staff reacted swiftly by keeping te airway open &calling 911. Melissa rode with her to the hospital and stayed with her in lieu of family throughout the ordeal.
