1. The October Board meeting will be held on the third Tuesday
(October 15th) instead of the normal second Tuesday. This is
due to the anticipated absences of several Board Members .
2 . The BRAZOS BOHEMIAN FEST begins on Friday, October 4th and
will continue through Sunday evening. I have enclosed the
schedule of the bands for your information and encourage
you to come out . The festival is being supported throligh-.-the
efforts of several local service 'organizations . These include
the College Station Noon Lion' s Club, B/CS Jaycees , SPJST
Women' s Club, 4-H Club, Fit-For-Kids , Stage Center, and student
organizations from Texas A&M.
3 . College Station will be the host for three State Softball
Tournaments in 1986 . These are the MINOR GIRLS SLOWPITCH,
WOMEN' S CLASS A SLOWPITCH, and MEN' S CHURCH SLOWPITCH. As
you know, we also received the bid for the TEXAS GAMES in
1988 through the joint efforts of the City of Bryan, Texas
A&M, B/CS Chamber of Commerce, and the Hilton Hotel. This
will be a ,major event attracting over 10 , 000 people to the
community during the two weekends . College Station will be
responsible for the SWIM MEET, WOMEN' S SOFTBALL , and the
10K RUN. Also, we will assist with the other events as
needed. I have attached a copy of our official bid sheet
and a list of tournaments hosted by College Station Parks
and Recreation Department in the past . Unfortunately, we
did not win the bid for the annual TAAF meeting in 1987 .
We plan to try again next year.
4 . We are proposing November 12th as the official open house for
Lincoln Center . This would be the regular scheduled night
for the Parks and Recreation Board. The work at Lincoln Center
should be completed within 2-3 weeks . I want to discuss any
ideas that you might have concerning this function at our
next board meeting.

5 . The Land Acquisition proposed for Raintree Park was rejected
by the City Council at the last regular meeting. The land was
appraised at $1, 500 .00 per acre. The owner was asking approxi-
mately $8, 000 . 00-$10, 000 .00 per acre. Also, there was doubt
as to the need for additional land for this site due to its
classification as a "Neighborhood Park" . Some concern was
expressed that by enlarging the present site, the role of the
park would change to more community-oriented interests .
