FROM: Steve Beachy, Director, Parks and Recreation Dept.
SUBJECT: Items of Interest
A. I have enclosed a copy of the letter to Mrs. Janie Cargill
from the Trust Officer of the Astin Foundation stating that
our application has been turned down. We will continue our
landscape efforts at Southwood Athletic Park based upon the
plan that was prepared for the grant application. Work will
be done according to the funds and labor resources that are
available through bond programs and the operating budget .
Completion will take several years.
B, The revised.:summer movie schedule is enclosed onf,ia.....:Separate
sheet . The two " Urban Cowboy and Friday The
13th, have been dropped. The substitutes are Watcher in The
Woods .by Walt pj..sney and The Lbrdo. of Flatt0.01-4.=..., All four

The Central Park soccer building'2,.'resrOoms are now being left
open twenty four

the City Council. We are trying to rearrange work schedules
for personnel in the Maintenance Divisionto have several

playgrounds, ballfields and other facilities. Efforts will
be oriented . to :Central, Bee Creek,

D. The Southwood Pool and Recreation Area contract dispute has
been tentatively resolved. The agreement that has been
reached includes the following basic items:
I. A second contractor mutually acceptable
to both the City and Calcon will be selected
to complete the punch list items for the
pool.
2 . The City and Calcon will split the cost
of resurfacing the two . asphalt tennis courts
and the two basketball courts.

3. The City will pay any cost in excess of
$1,500. 00 required to pressure seal the cove
grout at the juncture of the pool walls and
pool floor.
4 . All inspections will be done by Mr. Elrey
Ash or his delegate. The delegate must be a
member of the Engineering Department Staff
and a registered engineer.
5 . Caicon will submit the names of all
subcontractors for approval by the City.
6. Upon execution of the new contract , the •
City will .pay Calcon $47 , 000.00 for work in
place.
7 . All work shall be completed by the new
contractor within sixty days of the date of
final execution of the new contract .
This meansprobably incur an additional
expense completioncould be
possible by early August . At this time, I am not forecasting
the pool to open this year.
E. There are alligators currently living in the arboretum ponds
in Bee Creek Park. We observed one approximately 4 feet long
on Tuesday, May 28th at aptitoci4TotojI:...... 1 PM. This was the
same day that a three foot alligator was caught in a
neighborhood in Southwood Valley and possibly explains why
there are no ducks or geese in the arboretum.
F. I will be on active duty at Ft. Hood, Texas from June 5th
until June 23rd should any questions or problems come to the
attentions during my absence, please contact
