HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/08/1983 - Regular Minutes - Parks Board PARKS & RECREATION BOARD REGULAR MEETING Tuesday, November 8, 1983 Members Present: Judy LeUnes, Chairman, Donita Haden, Vice Chairman, John Crompton, Ted Nelson, Will Worley, David Ruesink, and Pat Boughton, Council Representative Members Absent: Buck Weirus Staff Present: Andy Czimskey, Assistant Director, Marci Rodgers, Recreation Superintendent, Charles Szabuni ewi cz, Aquatics Superintendent, Margaret Curry, Senior Citizens Supervisor, and Mary Tucker, Secretary Visitors : Terry Vodenbaum, 803 B Lisa, Bryan, Texas Chris Adams, 1613 Kyle South #191 , College Station, Kathy O'Leary, 1613 Kyle South #191 College Station, Patsy Krawietz, 733 Inwood , Bryan, Texas, Stewart Gerhart, 205 Jersey West #1703, College Station, Bruce Burnett, • 2401 Welsh #408, College Station I, Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Judy !Alines , Chairman at 7:10 P.M. I I. Aparoval of Minutes : Ted Nelson made the motion to accept the minutes . Will Worley seconded the motion, motion passed with none opposed. III. Hear Visitors: No visitor response. IV. Report on Teen Center: Marci Rodgers reported no progress has been ma e, she is still waiting for an estimate, from Jim Holster , to bring property up to standard. John Crompton expressed the need for use of facilities during day hours , possibly Day Care Center, which he feels is needed. The Board discussed this possibility and also the slow progress being made on the teen center project. Pat Boughton will contact Ci re,y Ash to get a report on the progress being made, for the Board. V. Closed Session to Discuss Land Acquisition: Andy Czimskey presented to the Board proposed sites the Land Acquisition Committee has been studying. Board discussed all proposed sites for the three neighborhood parks and one community park. Ted Nelson made the recommendation to have the City Council Land Acquisition Committee look at (I . Bert Wheeler property, (2. Property located South East of Texas Ave, between Rock Prafrie 'and Green Prairie, (3- Harvey Hillside, and /4. Central zone site. VI . Action on Closed Session: David Ruesink made the motion to recommend sending all proposed land sites /as per map) to the City Council Land Acquisition Committee for two neighborhood and one community parks. Donita Haden seconded the motion, motion passed with none opposed . VII. Board C Marci Rodgers reported to the Board on the problems of the tennis program and how these problems are being worked out. Charles Szabuniewicz reported to the Board the progress of the new swim hours which are working very well . -�- Will Worley was concerned with the lack of a sign to direct people to Bee at Creek Park. AndyCzimskey reported a sign is now being acquired by the Parks and Recreation Staff. Pat Boughton voiced concern for progress on the work of the lD neighborhood parks conStruCtion. Andy explained the staff is working out final problems and that most the parks are 90% finished. John Crompton voiced concern for the tennis court light machines, not working properly. Andy told the Board the Parks & Recreation Department is unable to located a light machine which works better. Charles Szabuniewicz showed the Board proofs of the new Parks & Recreation Calendar, Pat Boughton expressed appreciation for John Crnmpton' s presentation to the City Council on the Fee Proposal . Will Worley informed the Board of the length of time for a lease on the First Presbyterian Church property the time being 5 years , subject to renewal . Donita Hayden expressed concern for a longer lease if permanent equipment is to be installed on this property. ' ^ / - � IX. Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 P.M. ��.
