Meeting Notes
Purpose of the Meeting: To discuss and update current 2016 Senior Advisory Committee Goals
Members Present: Mickey Stokes, Russell Kohel, Carol Blaschke, Christine Williams, Margaret
Carmichael and Jeanne Machrowicz
Staff Present: Marci Rodgers
The current goals were reviewed and updated
GoalIncrease awareness and visibility of senior programs offered by the College

Updates included- Mickey Stokes was interviewed on “I Heart Radio” explaining
programs and activities offered by the City. Other committee members have been
distributing calendars and guides to doctor’s offices, hair dressers, VA clinic and Bush
Library. Seniors Expo held on May 18, 2016 committee distributed summer guides,
monthly calendars and giveaways to 1500 participants. Carol Blaschke shared several
newsletters from other senior organizations and will look into speaking opportunity at
Lion’s Club
Goal: Work with Architectural design team on needs for future senior center and
community center
The architect met with staff to review pre-conceptual designs on renovation and
expansion to current Arts Center facility on July 13, 2016. An update will be given at
next Senior Advisory Committee meeting
Goal: Promote Senior Friendly Business Award
Applications will be available at next Senior Advisory Committee meeting and members
encouraged to nominate businesses that are Senior Friendly.
Goal: Bob Meyer Memorial Committee should remain a sub-committee of the
Senior Advisory Committee
The Wanda and Bob Meyer Plaque unveiling was discussed. A reception is planned for
Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Southwood Community Center at 1:30 p.m. The program
will include words of appreciation, unveiling and refreshments. Invitations will be
extended to past Senior Advisory Committee members, Parks and Recreation Board and
Mayor and City council. Public Communications and marketing will be contacted.
