1.Call to order:
The meeting was called to order at 4:02 p.m.
2.Discussion, consideration and possible approval of absentee requests:
There were no
requests.
3.Tour of potential new cemetery site:
The committee went and viewed the potential new
cemetery site on Wellborn Road.
4.Discussion, consideration, and possible formulation of a recommendation to be taken to
City Council regarding the purchase of the potential new cemetery site:
Ross presented a
map to the committee of a potential cemetery site as well as the cemetery selection criteria
the committee established in May 1999. Ross feels that this property meets the selection
criteria of the committee. The property consists of two tracts of land that are owned by the
same family: a 50-acre tract and a 57-acre tract. He explained that 1 tract of land is in the
College Station school district and 1 tract is in the Navasota school district. Funds have been
identified for all 107 acres. A contract is in front of Council which is contingent on a test
drill to be done at the site, as well as a recommendation from the cemetery committee.
The 50-acre tract is on Wellborn water and could possibly get costly to make a well.
However, it does have a pond, which could be a positive for irrigation.
Mary Bryan asked about surface rights and who would have control. Steve B. replied that he
did not know the answer, however that should be found out.
Joe W. made a presentation regarding the possibility of the city pursuing several pieces of
property at FM2818 and Highway 60 for a cemetery site (see attached). Joe W. will make
another presentation at the next regular cemetery committee meeting on Thursday, November
13, 2003. A formulation of a recommendation to City Council regarding the purchase of a
potential new cemetery site will also be discussed at that meeting.
5.Adjourn:
The meeting adjourned at 5:40 PM.
