Presentation, discussion, and possible action regarding an update about the new Cemetery site by Mark McCauliffe: Mr. McCauliffe handed out a summary report (see attached) on various properties which look suitable for a cemetery. The report included tax maps and tax cards of the properties. He pointed out that most of the properties listed are not for sale as of present, but a few of them are. He went on to say that if one of the properties looks favorable, he could then contact the owner asking if they would be willing to sell. The Committee decided that each person should drive around and go look at the properties that were listed. They will then focus on those properties that the Committee felt were the best possible choices for the new cemetery. There was no motion made. Discussion, consideration, and possible action regarding the letter submitted by Laura Normand concerning Section M of the Cemetery: On May 17, 2001 Katherine Edwards wrote a letter to Laura Normand about Section M of the Cemetery. She asked Ms. Normand to clarify what she believed the agreement was between her father, W.D. Fitch, and the City of College Station regarding the spaces in Section M. Ms. Normand replied with a letter dated May 30, 2001. As stated in the letter, Ms. Normand understood the agreement as follows: "The agreement was that this area, now Section M, would be opened up for Mr. Fitch and his family only. It was understood that any expenses for surveying, etc., would have to be paid for by the Fitch family, and that the lots would be for the use of Mr. Fitch and his family only." No action was taken at this time on this item. 7.Discussion, consideration and possible action concerning committee goals and concerns for presentation to City Council: Katherine handed out a copy of the College Station Cemetery Committee Annual Report which she will be presenting to Council (see attached). She reminded the Committee that Council will give her 5 minutes to give her report. The Committee stressed that they would like Katherine to devote the majority of her time to item #7 regarding the City's new Cost Recovery Policy as it relates to the Cemetery. Katherine wrote a Committee statement in regards to this issue, and the Committee agreed that they would like Katherine to read the statement as well as putting it in print. Ed Burns suggested that the following statements be placed in the Committee statement: "The Cemetery is an example of the sacred pride of the community"; "The Cemetery is essential for all members of the community"; "The Cemetery is a reflection of respect of the living for the past"; and "The Cemetery is more than a temporal facility such as jogging and bicycle paths, athletic facilities or other entertainment areas." Katherine would be making her presentation later that day. 8.
