Discussion, consideration, and possible action regarding the sale of 5 foot by 10 foot spaces platted in Section "M": Section “M” is the section in which Mr. W.D. Fitch paid to have approximately 30 spaces surveyed and platted—they own 17 spaces of that section. Sarah Adams reported on a conversation with Laura Normand, the daughter of the late Mr. Fitch. Ms. Normand indicated that she was under the impression that Section “M” belonged to the Fitches. Sarah asked Ms. Normand to put something in writing to that effect and send it to the Committee about her understanding is concerning her family’s intentions for Section “M”. Ed Burns moved to table the discussion of Section “M”. Joe Wallace seconded the motion. All were in favor, and the motion passed unanimously. 6. Discussion, consideration, and possible action on a report and update from the Section “L” sub-committee: Ross showed a map of the cemetery that was sectioned off, and he reported that corner markers are in place in Section “L”. He also stated that Section “L” would have approximately one Page 1 of 3 Cemetery Committee Meeting Thursday, December 14, 2000 hundred and twenty six adult spaces. In addition, he showed the proposed cremate area, which will allow for four hundred cremate spaces. He also stated that the sub-committee suggested that section 64 and section 72 be put on reserve to see how the demands are for cremate spaces. These two sections would allow for an additional one hundred and twenty six cremate spaces if needed. Sarah also elaborated that the sub-committee had talked about only opening a few sections at a time for cremate spaces. Sarah reported that the sub-committee had suggested a means to memorialize the Madley donation. The sub-committee felt that a granite boulder with a flat surface and a plaque mounted onto it would look nice in a raised planter with landscaping around it. It was also suggested that the wording on the plaque be short, and place a paragraph in the brochure regarding the Madley memorial area. Ross went over the proposed revisions to Ordinance 2178. Joe Wallace made a motion to accept the Ordinance. Sarah Adams seconded the motion. All were in favor, and the motion passes unanimously. 7. Discussion and consideration on a request for information from the Legal Department on “if there is any way this committee can find out what City Council is thinking or doing about the acquisition of property for a new cemetery site?”: Ross informed the Committee that College Station I.S.D., which owns the piece of property the Committee had considered for a new cemetery site, has decided not to sell that piece of property. He also stated that over the next couple of months, he and Steve Beachy, Director of Parks and Recreation, will make a list of potential pieces of property for a new cemetery. At that time, the Committee will then rank the pieces of property. Once the properties have been ranked, the proposed site will be sent to the City Council for approval 8. Discussion, consideration, and possible action regarding the status of the Aggie Field of Honor: Joe Wallace reported that the NDG Corporation has had a session with the TAMU Foundation Board of Trustees. The Board appointed a committee of two people to look into the issue of financing a new cemetery. Ross added that according to The Eagle, State Representative Fred Brown introduced a bill to the Texas State Legislature to create a bracket bill that would allow a cemetery to be established within the City of College Station city limits. This was an informational item only, and no motion was made. 9.
