Recommendation(s):Hold public hearing and receive citizen input on the tax rate. Summary:The Texas Property Tax Code requires that if an entity wishes to increase tax revenues over the effective tax rate then that entity must call and hold two public hearings on the proposed tax rate. Following each public hearing the City Council must announce the meeting date,time and place to adopt the tax rate. The tax rate that the City Council announced it would hold the public hearings on is $0.497500 per $100 assessed valuation. The notice of this public hearing was placed in the Eagle,as well as on the City's internet site,and the City's television channel. This is the first public hearing on the tax rate.A second public hearing will be held on Monday September 11. The City Council will vote on the tax rate on Monday September 25 at 7:00 PM. Budgetary and Financial Summary:The public hearing tax rate of $0.497500 per $100 assessed valuation will generate $43,310,628 in taxes.The property taxes are used to fund the general debt service of the City as well as a portion of the operations and maintenance costs of the General Fund.
