HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-0369 - Ordinance - 05/15/19630eft X4111,0 BOORUM & PEASE ORDINANCE NO. 369 THE STATE OF TEXAS 1 COUNTY OF BRAZOS On this the 15th day of May, 1963, the City Council of the City of College Station, Texas convened in special session in the regular meeting place of said city, with the following Ernest Langford Mayor J. A. Orr Councilman Carl W. Landiss Councilman Robert R. Rhodes Councilman Joe H. Sorrels Councilman A. L. Rosprim Councilman K. A. Manning City Secretary J. L. Sandstedt City Attorney being present and passed the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE APPROVING AND ADOPTING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT OF CERTAIN PORTIONS OF PERSHING AVENUE, SHETLAND STREET, DEXTER. DRIVE, ASHBURN AVENUE, COLLEGE MAIN NORTH AND FRANCIS DRIVE IN THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS, AND DIRECTING ADVERTISEMENT OF BIDS FOR SUCH IMPROVEMENTS, AND DE3LARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the governing body of the City of College Station, by ordinance passed on the 25th day of February, 1963, ordered and provided for the improvement of certain portions of Dexter Drive and Pershing Avenue in said city and defined and designated in said ordinance as the District to include the street commencing at the intersection of Jersey Street and Dexter Drive thence in a southerly, direction along Dexter Drive until same intersects County Road and the street commencing at the intersection of Jersey Street and Pershing Avenue thence in a southerly direction along Pershing Avenue until same intersects with Woodson Village Subdivision; and, WHEREAS, the governing body of the City of College Station, by ordinance passed on the 25th day of March, 1963, ordered and provided for the improve- ment of certain portions of Ashburn Avenue and Shetland Street in said city and defined and.designated in said ordinance as the District to include the street commencing at the intersection of Ashburn Avenue and Lincoln Avenue IX thence in a southerly direction along Ashburn Avenue until same intersects 4 Francis Drive and the street commencing at the intersection of Shetland t Street and Pershing Avenue thence in an easterly direction along Shetland Street until same intersects with Lee Street; and, WHEREAS, the governing body of the City of College Station, by ordinance w passed on the 22nd day of April, 1963, ordered and provided for the improvement of certain portions of Francis Drive in said city and defined dand designated in said ordinance as the District to include the street UJ UJ commencing at the intersection of Francis Drive and Munson Avenue thence in a northeasterly direction along Francis Drive until same intersects Carterts Grove Subdivision; and, : .00890 O 0 03 WHEREAS, the governing body of the City of College Station,by ordinance passed on the 7th day of May, 1963, ordered and provided for the improvement of certain portions of College Main North in said city and defined and designated in said ordinance as the District to include the street commencing at the intersection of College Main North and Church Avenue thence in a northwesterly direction along College Main North until same intersects the city limits; and, WHEREAS, the City Engineer has prepared and filed with the Governing body of the city plans and specifications for such improvements and same have been examined and in all respects approved; and, WHEREAS, the present condition of said streets endanger health and safety, and it is necessary that the improvement thereof be proceeded with while the weather will permit and such improvement will be delayed pending the passing and taking effect of this ordinance and such facts constitute and create an DJ emergency; v THERELIORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION: CL 616 1. That said plans and specifications prepared by the City Engineer and now on file with the City be and the same are hereby adopted and approved. (t 2. That the City Manager be and he is hereby directed to advertise for ® sealed competitive bids for the making and construction of such improvements, C� such advertisement to be made by causing notice to be published in a news- paper published in and of general circulation in the City of College Station, Texas, such publications to be made at least two times, and the first publication to be made at least fourteen days before the date stated therein for the receipt of bids. Such publication shall be made in such papers and circulation as the City Manager may deem desirable, but publication in such newspaper in the City of College Station shall be sufficient whether or not any other notice or advertisement be given or made. 3. The condition of said streets endanger health and safety and it is necessary that the improvements thereof be proceeded with while the weather will permit and such improvement is being delayed pending the passing and taking effect of this ordinance, and such facts constitute and create an emergency and an urgent necessity requiring that the rules and charter provisions be suspended, and this ordinance is passed and shall take effect as an emergency measure.
