CiTY OF COLLEGE STATION
PARKS AND RECREATION FO'1NITTEE
December 14, 1476
The meeting was called to order at 7 o' m. Attendinq were Chairman
Louis Hodges, members Stephen Riter, Ray Quinn, Fred Bouse, and
Vary Saslo-.m; Councilman Larry Ringer; Parks and Recreation Director
Paul Wojciechowski; and visitors Charles B. Nelson and Carroll Enloe.
1. Consideration of access way proposal behind 'alayne Smith Park.
Mr..Nelson and Mr. Enloe are planning to build an apartment complex
immediately south of the park, and would like to construct an
access road along the southern border of the park in an area
which is presently a drainage ditch. The apartments will front
on Eleanor St., but the developers would prefer this more direct
route to the university. Fearing additional traffic on Montclair
which goes between Wayne Smith Park and Little League Park, th=
committee suggested that an extension of Eleanor 5t. would be
batter.
2. Future parkland near Brentwood.
Four tracts of land meet in'the flood plain area east of Texas Ave.
and south of Highway 30. They are owned by !foods, Cruse, KFO, and
Richard Smith. Richard Smith has already donated 7.5 acres for
the Brentwood dedication; Cruse is donating a strip on the back of
their property: the city should consider bJying the land between
these two areas. The KFO tract backs up to them: we should
attempt to get their parkland dedication in this area also. The
bJoods tract will probably give a donation of land for a kixwx
bike path along the flood plain from Rt. 30 in toward this area.
The committee should get out and see the.area, figure out what
additional land it would be useful to buy, and apply to the Bureau
of Outdoor Reareation for matching funds for the purchase of such
land.
3. Anderson Ridge Park: Trade of land with J.'0. Goods.
The developer would like to trade small parcels of land so that
his land will hays access to the Anderson Street extension. The
committee would like additional land in thQ'area, and is informing
the developer of this intention to purchase such land. This
area is designated on the city's comprehensive plan as a park site,
so the city has the right to request to purchase additional land
in the area.
