MINUTES
Parks and Recreation Committee
January 15, 1975
MEMBERS PRESENT: Roger Feldman, Joan Teer, William L. Hoover,
W. B. Lancaster.
OTHERS PRESENT: Paul Wojciechowski, David Reed, Dennis Howard.
Agenda Items No. 1,2,3: The committee reviewed the first Interim
Report of Phase III of the city's Comprehensive Development
Plan prepared by Pinnell -Anderson -Wilshire and Associate, Inc.
which contained recommendations for a nark, recreation and open
space plan. At the same time, we reviewed the Capital Improvement
Program also prepared by Pinnell -Anderson -Wilshire. The committee
was quite satisfied with both elements and voted to send a letter
to the City Council recommending its approval of both the
Development Plan and the Capital Improvement Program.
Agenda Item No. 4: Dr. Hoover discussed recent developments from
within the College Station Recreation Council. With consideration
of recent growth in the community, along with a turnover in the
past 6-8 years of personnel in the community who have had key rolls
in the momentum of the Recreation Council, it is the feeling now
that the efforts of the Council should be affixed to a professional
staff. The Parks & Recreation Committee apparently offers the best
possibility of providing the professional leadership necessary to
keep the Recreation Council in a helthy state.
The Committee voted to meet with leaders of the Recreation Council
and discuss the possibility of consolidation.
Agenda Item No. 5: The Committee discussed possible regular
meeting times and decided on the third Wednesday of each month
so that our meetings would precede regular City Council meetings
scheduled for the fourth Monday each month.
Agenda Item No. 6: Mrs. Joan Teer presented her letter of
resignation from the Parks and Recreation Committee effective
January 15, 1975. The resignation was regretfully accepted after
praise to Mrs. Teer for her long and faithful service to the community.
The meeting was adjourned.

In the bantams, midgets and juniors, the emphasis will be on improvement
climbing, and some teaching of basic track and field skills. There will

THE RECREATION COUNCIL
College SPaYiOn, Texas

The Recreation Council is composed of College Station citizens, representing the service
and civic organizations, the public schools, the University, the City of College Station,
and the community at large. These individuals serve without compensation.
The objective of the Council is to provide for all the people of the community opportuni-
ties For wholesome play and recreation through an integrated program, covering a wide range
of organized activities, that is increasingly becoming year-round in scope.
This year, over 1800 children, young people, and adults will participate directly in these
activities. Thousands of others will enjoy the thrill of spectators as they follow the
development of their children, watch the competitive sports, or witness the awe-inspiring
fireworks display which is the climax of the July 4th Community Picnic.
This year's budget is over $18,000 (exclusive of registration fees) which goes almost
entirely to the programmed activities for instructors salaries, equipment, supplies and
incidental program expenses. Because of the volunteer work of the Council members, the
actual administrative cost of the program is less than $200. Registration fees furnish
less than half the total budget, the remainder coming from the City of College Station and
the College Station United Chest, Inc.
