POST OFFICE BOX AF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS 77840 WILLIAM D. FITCH Investments — Alanabcinent December 21, 1977 T0: Parks & Recreation Committee City of College Station, Texas Mr. Louis Hodges, Chairman SUBJECT: Southwood Valley Parks Dear Mr. Hodges: OFFICE (713) 693-9112 RESIDENCE (713) 693-8441 As you are aware, the City Council approved acceptance of the three proposed parks in and adjacent to Southwood Valley, as recommended by your Committee; I want to thank you and the Committee for your support and report that the deeds to the properties are being prepared for presentation to the Council at Thursday's meeting. Andy Czimskey, of the Parks Department, said you might be considering naming these parks at tonight's meeting and asked if I had any suggestions, so I am'responding with the following proposed names. I. The four acre park next to Peppertree Apartments might be called simply "Peppertree Park" which will help identify its location next to the apartments of the same name, as its purpose is principally to serve these apartment dwellers. 2. The park in the woods with the small lake might be called "Brothers Park", also to identify with its location just off Brothers Boulevard. 3. The 11.3 acre park, across West Loop from the A&M Church of Christ, I would very much like to see named for my Mother, Georgie K. Fitch, who is a person very worthy of this type remembrance. While she was never active directly in the affairs of our City, she contributed support to me both morally and financially during the years of development of this part of the City which eventually resulted in the possi- bility of this gift to the City from me and my wife, Gail. City of College Station - Mr. Hodges Page 2 Most memorials seem to be given in honor of persons deceased, however I believe there is merit in honoring persons while they are here to enjoy it. If you had considered naming this park for the donors, it would still be implied by this name and I would appreciate your joining me in honoring this deserving lady. Sincerely, ;6)w William D. Fitch WDF/bas TO: Parks & Recreation Committee FROM: Don Martell DATE: 25 January 1978 REF: Anderson Street Park Extension Pursuant to Bill Fitch's proposal to extend Anderson Street Park to the Southwest Parkway I have reviewed our records and confirmed that the previous price, paid by the city on Anderson Park, was $7,000.00 per acre. Therefore, I would propose that we reconvrend this purchase to the Council at a price of $7,000.00 per acre for the 3.3 acres. Touch base with any questions. Kindest regards, 4fIX- , Robert D. Martell
