A resolution recognizing the need to improve the safety
operation of the Highway System in the Bryan-College Station
area.
WHEREAS, the State of Texas has a program to analyze safety
problems on its highway system and to provide funding to
correct these problems on a Statewide priority basis for the
most effective projects; and,
WHEREAS, SH 6 frontage roads have experienced some 305
accidents with one fatality accident over the last 3 years and
studies show that this accident rate can be reduced by 25
percent by changing to one way operations;
THEREFORE, now, be it resolved that the City of College Station
supports the Department of Highways and Public Transportation
in the modification of the Highway System necessary to convert
the frontage roads to one way operation between the following
limits:
The East Frontage Road from the Bryan city limits
south to Rock Prairie Road, and,
The West Frontage Road from the Bryan city limits
south to Loop 507 (Texas Avenue) at Deacon Street.
