WHEREAS, the City Council has proposed to place the question of an additional one-half of one percent sales and use tax before the voter on the May 5, 1990 ballot; and WHEREAS, state law requires that the wording of the ballot must be stated as "to be used to reduce the property tax rate."; and WHEREAS, state law elsewhere states that the tax rate that is to be reduced is the effective tax rate; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS: That if the issue as stated on the ballot is passed by the voters, the intent is to use the revenue generated by the additional sales tax to keep the property tax as low as possible while at the same time accomplishing the goals of the Council that would normally affect the property tax rate. It is intended that the transfer to the general fund from the enterprise funds would be reduced thus reducing those service rates in those enterprise funds. Other uses could include the requirement of additional capital improvement programs and maintenance of street infrastructure. APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of College Station, Texas this 7th day of March , 1990. ATTEST: 007747
