09-26-90-5 - Resolution - 09/26/1990 RESOLUTION NO. ~ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION SUPPORTING THE SIXTH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT AS IT REMAINS TODAY. WHEREAS, Brazos County, Texas has been a part of what is commonly called the Sixth Congressional District of Texas since 1903, and WHEREAS, the Sixth Congressional District of Texas is made up primarily of Brazos County and other counties of similar size with similar economic, social and cultural interests, and WHEREAS, during recent decades Brazos County has grown to become one of the largest and most important counties within the Sixth Congressional District of Texas, and WHEREAS, Texas anticipates additional congressional seats and redistricting to accommodate them in 1991, and WHEREAS, with the anticipated growth and development of Brazos County as the location of Texas A&M University, effective congressional and legislative representation of Brazos County will become even more critical to its citizens, and WHEREAS, it is strongly felt that the interests of the citizens of Brazos County are best served by the county remaining intact (as a complete county within one congressional district) such as has generally been the Sixth District since at least 1935, and separate from any congressional district whose majority population might be represented by the residents of a single urban or large city- county. BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that The City of College Station as attested by its undersigned representative(s) HEREBY, supports the efforts of citizens to keep Brazos County intact and in the Sixth Congressional District not dominated by a single block of a large city or urban area residents.
