DIRECTING THE CITY' MANAGER TO REQUEST A PROPOSAL FROM TEXAS A&M
',~'--- UNIVERSITY' REGARDING PROVISION OF FIRE PROTECTION AND EMS SERVICE
~":--'BY THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION TO TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY.

"~-.._. WHEREAs, the City of College station (City) currently provides fire protection service .~-.. -,~,
,,,,;:,~, and emergency medical service (EMs) to Texas A&M University (TAMU); and
".I', ·" WHEREAs, TAMU with its physical plant and building occupants creates a significant --' :~.'~
'"-- ' demand for fire protection service and EMs with much of this physical plant not built~-~"'- ~ '~'

.-.-~ according to City fire and life safety codes; and

,,.7-.,; WHEREAS, this fire protection service is provided by the City to TAMU at a yearly .--~. ~../,

estimated cost in 1993-94 of $2.2 million, and .~.~,,
. WHEREAS, the City receives no direct payment from TAMU for fire protection service;

{:',,.__ WHEREAS, TAMU owns and operates Easterwood Airport, a general and commercial

~.I,~ .---' WHEREAS, TAMU is required to provide a much higher level of crash/rescue fire

"~-.-~--: service to Easterwood Airport than is currently provided; and
~..-}~ WHEREAS, the city now provides only minimal crash/rescue fire protection service to c~-~--
,.,- ::;_. TAMU's Easterwood Airport; and

.; ..- WHEREAS, TAMUS Board of Regents, by resolution adopted May 28, 1993, has ._...,
~,"; '-directed TAMU staff to meet with the City regarding location, construction, and -

WHEREAS, the City of College Station City Council wishes to respond to TAMU's .:r--
-'-. request for enhanced fire crash/rescue service at Easterwood Airport as well as d~rect ,c.-
