03-10-94-3.3 - Resolution - 03/10/1994RESOLUTION NO. -_.3:L0_:93;3- . 3 ':k RESOLUTION AUTEOI~TTn~tG THE MAYOR TO SIGN AND SUBMIT A PROGRAM C~EAN CITIES 2000 PROGRAM SPONSORED BY TIlE NATURAL ~URCE CONSERVATION COMMISSION AND TO COMMIT THE crrY o13 COLLEGE STATIQN TO THE LOCAL I~NSIlRONIVIENTAL PLAN OF ACTION W~II(/-I INCLUDI~S mrr Tn s SOLm aDUC ON UNT City of College Station is committed to improving the quality of life through the 'development and implementation of the Clean Cities 2000 Plan of Action; The Clean Cities 2000 Plan of Action helps to address fourteen (14) Council Strategic Issues; ,'WHEREAS, The Clean Cities 2000 Plan of Action will encourage and promote solid waste reduction and f:~reeyeling, water and air pollution prevention, and general environmental protection; ;WHEREAS, Some of the benefits of veeei~ a Clean Cities 2000 designation include statewide . ~recognition by the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission and the Governor's ',: Environmental Awards Program, bonus points on future solid waste grant-applications, public education materials, economic development tools; increased opportunity for public/private partnerships, increased public support, advance compliance with future environmental mandates and 'model' community for suceessful environmental initiatives; . The Clean Cities 2000 Program is a proactive community enhancement program that '-' provides recognition to cities taking the initiative to comprehensively address environmental issues and :' protect the natural resources it has; WHEREAS, Most of the Clean Cities 2000 Program activities are already in place and will require only ' minimal new program implementation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the mayor is hereby authorized to sign the project nomination torm of lhe Clean Cities 2000 Program an~t that the City Council commits to the College Station Environmental Plan of Action included; That the City Council commits to financially support the implementation and the continuation of the environmental programs included in the Clean Cities 2000, Plan of Action for College Station through the year 2000AD; That the City Council commits to strive for full compliance with all regulations enforced by Texas ural Resource Conservation Commission.
