06-09-94-2.7 - Resolution - 06/09/1994A RESOLUTION TO EXPRESS THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION SUPPORT OF THE TAMU BOARD OF REGENTS' COMMITMENT TO THE CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE OF THE SPECIAL EVENTS CENTER. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of College Station met on the 9th day of June, 1994, to consider support of the TAMU Special Events Center to be located on the campus of Texas A&M University; and, WHEREAS, the City of College Station's population has increased seven fold since the installation of the existing facility in 1952 rendering it inadequate to serve the growth of Texas A&M University and the Brazos Valley for the purpose of accommodating athletic events, entertainment programs, and other special events. WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the economic benefits generated to the community by providing a larger facility and the interest expressed from citizens to attend these types of cultural and social activities in a new Special Events Center; and, WHEREAS, the Board of Regents committed funds for the construction and operation of a Special Events Center; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THIS ORGANIZATION WILL ASSIST IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE TO ENSURE this community gives support to this endeavor, and upon approval this resolution shall be sent to the Texas Higher Education Coordination Board in order to request the Coordinating Board's approval of this project at its July 1994 meeting.
