RESOLUTION NO. 1-23-97-fi-e
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION REQUESTING
THAT THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (TXDOT) BEGIN THE
NECESSARY PROCESSES, PROCEDURES AND STUDIES TO INCLUDE A GRADE
SEPARATION AT THE INTERSECTION OF UNIVERSITY DRIVE AND TEXAS AVENUE AS
A PROJECT ON ITS TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (TIP).
WHEREAS, the number one Council Ends Statement, Transportation/Mobility, states that citizens
benefit from the ability to move into, out of, and within the City of College Station in a safe and
efficient manner.
WHEREAS, the intersection of University Drive (FM 60) and Texas Avenue (SH 6) has the highest
traffic volume of any intersection in Brazos County, Texas and is a significant cause of traffic
congestion, delay, and motorist frustration in the College Station/Bryan community.
WHEREAS, a grade separation at the intersection of University Drive and Texas Avenue is currently
included as a long-range project on the Bryan-College Station Metropolitan Planning Organization's
transportation plan.
WHEREAS, the City of College Station desires to raise the priority of a University Dr./Texas
Avenue grade separation from a long range project on the MPO's transportation plan to a short or
mid-range project on this plan.
WHEREAS, University Drive is included on the National Highway System and therefore a grade
separation at its intersection with Texas Avenue could compete on a statewide basis for National
Highway System funding.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of College Station, Texas that the City of
College Station requests that the Texas Department of Transportation begin the necessary processes,
procedures, and studies to include a grade separation at the intersection of University Drive (FM 60)
and Texas Avenue (SH 6) on its Transportation Improvement Program.
