09-08-22-8.5 - Resolution - 09/08/2022RESOLUTION NO. 09-08-22-8.5 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE VEHICLE REGISTRATION FEE OF THE BRAZOS VALLEY REGIONAL MOBILITY AUTHORITY (RMA). WHEREAS, the RMA was created through authorization of the Texas Transportation Commission in 2019; and WHEREAS, the RMA is authorized under state law to develop and implement a wide range of transportation projects including roadways, pedestrian/bike facilities, transit systems, and parking facilities; and WHEREAS, the RMA is an important partner in facilitating transportation throughout the county, including in the City of College Station; and WHEREAS, Brazos County has experienced an annual growth in congestion of 5.1% between 1982 and 2019; and WHEREAS, the population of Brazos County has increased by 21.6% since the 2010 census; and WHEREAS, the combined student populations at Texas A&M University and Blinn College in Brazos County has reached over 79,000; and WHEREAS, transportation projects often require the collaboration of Federal, State, and Local authorities; and WHEREAS, efficient transportation is important to the health and safety, economic development, and quality of life in the City of College Station; and WHEREAS, mitigating traffic congestion is an ongoing process and a sustainable source of funds will be necessary to continue addressing traffic congestion in the future; and WHEREAS, the Brazos Valley RMA has submitted a ten-dollar fee ($10.00) on vehicle registrations in Brazos County, to be considered by the voters on November 8th, 2022; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS: PART 1: The City of College Station supports Brazos County RMA’s vehicle registration fee referendum. PART 2: The funds generated through the vehicle registration fee shall be used for the purpose of transportation projects in the County identified by the Brazos County Resolution No 2022-08-22-8.5. Page 2 of 2 Regional Mobility Authority in accordance with Section 502.402 of the Texas Transportation Code.
