PROGRESS REPORT ON LINCOLN CENTER PROJECT
The Lincoln Center Project was undertaken by the Recreation
and Parks 209 Maintenance and Operations Class with two main
objectives in mind. First, to restore and improve the condition
of the existing facilities. Second, to plan and design a
recreation program for Lincoln Center which will increase the
recreational opportunities for the people of this area.
Since the project was started, there has been considerable
improvements made at the center. One of the most obvious
improvements is the condition of the outside area. The grass has
been. mowed, glass and other litter has been picked up; this has
added greatly to the esthetic quality of the area. The permanent
structures have all undergone a massive cleanup program; such as
scrubbing the walls and floors and repainting the inside of most
of the buildings. All of the projected plans have not been
completed at this time; however, most of the major objectives
are underway and will be completed by the end of April. A
progress report and plans for each facility is as follows:
(1) LIBRARY ROOM
To date the walls and floors within this room
have been cleaned and the top section of the walls have been
repainted. Also, the rest rooms have been given, -a --thorough
cleaning. Additional plans for this facility include repainting
the lower section of the walls, fixing and replacing the light
fixtures, and waxing the floors. Also, another objective is to
add additional shelves for books and to stock the library with books.
(2)
(2) STAGE ROOM
To date the stage room walls have been painted
and the floors given a good cleaning. Additional plans are to
sand and varnish the stage floor, obtain curtains for the stage,
and replace needed light fixtures.
(3) GYM
To date the showers have been repainted and
approximately of the old tile floor has been removed. In
addition to this the individual storage rooms were given a
general cleaning and were rearranged. Major objectives of this
group is to retile the gym floor, paint the bleachers, and
repaint the inside and outside walls. Also, plans are to varnish
the wood work in the gym.
(4) GROUNDS
The major objective of this group is to give the
entire area a massive cleanup; this includes picking up trash,
mowing the grass, and trimming around the walks and buildings.
Another main objective is the improvement of the lighted baseball
field. To date, the grounds have been mowed, glass and trash
has been picked up, and several loads of sand have been spread
on the baseball diamond infield. In addition to this, the
spectator stands around the baseball field have been repainted.
Also, the old concession stand which was beyond repair has been
torn down. Additional plans are to plant some trees and shrubs
and remove -.the entire area as needed.
