Firefighting services in College Station were first provided by the Texas A&M College
Fire Department. In 1968, a special bond election was passed to construct a new city
hall building and a nearby police and fire facility. In July 1970, former Bryan Firefighter
Harry L. Davis was hired as the city’s first full-time firefighter. By late 1971, the city
assumed responsibility for fire protection on the university campus.
CSFD now operates six stations throughout the city with 140 full-time employees and
an annual budget of about $13.5 million.
