HomeMy WebLinkAboutFamily_SmithsIn 1ϵ3ϴ, Manning met his wife, Nita, on the dance floor at the A&M CoƩon Ball. Manning considered it "love at first dance!” Juanita "Nita" Cowsert graduated from the University of Texas and was teaching high school in San Antonio. They married in the summer of 1ϵ3ϵ and set out on a whirlwind tour across the country. Manning and NiManning and Nita each loved College StaƟon and decided to make it their permanent home. In 1ϵ40, they won a bid to purchase one of the ϵ3 small houses in an area on campus known as "Quality Row" for $750! The house was then moved to Ashburn Avenue in the College Hills area. Not long aŌerward, Manning and Nita added two children, Manning "Dee" Smith and Sherry Smith (Frisk). FFrom ϴ-1ϴ years old, Dee and Sherry traveled extensively with their parents through 4ϴ of the 50 U.S. states. Sightseeing between Manning and Nita's dance commitments was a family affair and provided a unique educaƟon for two small town Texas kids!
