On Oct. 19, 1938, College Station — the name used for decades by the Postal Service when delivering
mail via train to Texas A&M College — officially incorporated as a city. The vote was 217-39.
THE EXHIBIT
This year marks the city's 75th anniversary, and the City of College Station is seeking community support
and donations for an exhibit to be displayed at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum in
recognition of its 75-year history. Thanks to generous support from the Bush Library and Museum,
about 3,000 square feet of space is available for the design and display of local memorabilia, photos,
videos, and stories that highlight College Station’s 75 years as an incorporated city. The fundraising goal
to develop this exhibit and its related activities is estimated at $50,000.
The exhibit is expected to be open to the public from late October 2013 through early January 2014.
Related activities include a special kick-off event to welcome the public to the exhibit. This event may
include additional activities such as guest speakers, live music and entertainment, and a vintage car
show. Once determined, these activities will be announced at a later date.
THE LOCATION
The mission of the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum at Texas A&M University is to preserve
and make available the records and artifacts of George H.W. Bush, 41st President of the United States.
The Bush Library and Museum promotes civic literacy, an increased historical understanding of our
national experience, and fosters a community of public service and volunteerism. The Bush Library and
Museum frequently hosts internationally-recognized exhibits and programs, bringing in visitors from all
around the world.
The Bush Library and Museum also supports other worthwhile events and organizations in Bryan-College
Station such as the annual Food for Families food drive benefiting the Brazos Valley Food Bank, the
Junior League Stuff-the-Bus campaign, and the local Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors
Bureau. For more Bush Library and Museum information, go to bushlibrary.tamu.edu.
THE SPONSORS
To raise funds needed to build, promote and preserve the exhibit, citizen representatives of College
Station’s 75th anniversary planning committee are looking to community businesses, residents, history
enthusiasts and city supporters to contribute to this unique endeavor through monetary or in-kind
sponsorships. All sponsors to the exhibit and related activities will benefit from extended coverage of
