The City Council met in regular session at 7:00 p.m. with the fol-
lowing present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen A. P. Boyett, J. .A. Orr,
ISI. C. Pugh, Ernest Seeger, J. H. Sorrels; City Attorney Dillon, City
Manager Boswell.
Visitors present: C. G. Haas, Richard Vrooman, Mrs. W. W. Armistead.

In the absence of City Secretary McGinnis the 1layor asked City Attorney
Dillon to keep the minutes in this meeting.
Mr. Haas presented for the consideration of the.Council the question
of constructing a public swimming pool on the grounds of the A&xl Consolidated
School. It was the unanimous opinion of the Council that the city is not
in a position to participate fiancially in such a program.
The request of Dr. L. G. Jones for a replatting of Block 5 of Breezy
Heights .Addition was returned to him for further study.
The recommendation of the Planning Commission that the alley lying
between Lots 7-14 and 15-22, Block 9, West Park Addition, was disapproved

unanimously on motion by Councilman Boyett, seconded by Councilman Seeger.
It was the expressed wish of the Council that these minutes reflect no
dissatisfaction with the recommendation of the Planning Commission, but
rather that this action be accepted as being in keeping with previous action
on similar requests wherein the Council chose to respect the wishes of
property owners who objected to closing of alleys or streets.
On motion of Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Sorrels, all
voting aye, Ordinance No. 230, an ordinance closing and vacating an alley
was adopted.

a� In response to a letter from Mayor H. C. Dishman of Bryan, the Mayor
appointed Councilman Orr and Pugh to cons'Gi-l_'ute a committee in conformity
with Paragraph 6 of the Contract between the City of Bryan and College
Station.
On motion of Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Boyett, all voting
(L aye, City Manager Boswell and Councilman Sorrels were authorized to attend
+�s the national meeting of the Municipal Finance Officers Association in
Qp Washington June 3-8, expenses -of each to be paid by the city.

mobiles, particularly as concerning cars which are regularly parked along

WHEREAS, in BRAZOS COUNTY on F. M. ROAD 2151,. the City of College Station has re-
quested assistance in the widening of pavement including incidental items thereto
from Jersey Street to the Southeast City Limit, •a distance of approximately 0.7
mile; and
WFIEF2'AS, an analysis of the requested work indicates that such widening will
materially add to traffic safety on this facility;
NOW, TI-TLREFORE, the State Highway Engineer is directed to tender the following
proposal to the City of College Station:
Provided the Oity will:
1. Furnish all necessary right of: way clear of obstructions and free of
property damage and provide for the immediate construction of contin-
uous curb and gutter along the Northeast side, utility adjustments,
storm sewers, etc., all. as may be necessary for a complete project
with the exception of pavement widening.
2. Assume responsibility of the construction of driveways and sidewalks
should •i;hey be deemed necessary now or in the future.
3. Maintain that portion of the wont which is its construction responsi-
bility and enter into agreements according to standard forms of the
Highway Department to indemnify the State during and after construction
against any and all liability or damage growing out of such construction,
to regulate traffic, to provide for parallel parking and to prevent
encroachment on the right of way.
The Texas Highway Department will:
1. Provide for widening pavement and its support within these limits at an
estimated cost of Y�2,300.'1
2. 1%-Taintain that portion of the work which is its construction responsi-
bility.
It is understood that the .responsibility of the Texas Highway Department is con-
fined to the pavement and its support, and all other features necessary now or in
the future to provide an adequate travel :facility shall be the responsibility of
the City of College Station.
Upon acceptance of the provisioxls of this Order by the appropriate officials of
the City of College Station, the State Highway Engineer is directedto proceed
with the development of plans for construction and after the City bias fulfilled
its responsibilities proceed with construction in the most feasible and economical
manner..

This Order shall become operative upon acceptance by the City of College
Station and if not accepted within 90 days hereof shall be automatically
cancelled.

State Highway Commission on May 22 , 1.95 6
for the improvement by the Texas Highway Department of the roads des-
cribed below and that the r''*- of College Station agrees to furnish
all required right-of-way free of cost to the State:

Upon motion of Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Pugh, all present
voting aye, Ordinance Yo. 231, an ordinance receiving certain territory into
the city limits and incorporating the same as a part of the City of College
Station, was passed and ordered published.'
The City I.lanager was instructed to have copies of this ordinance dis-
tributed to all property owners concerned so that there could be no possibil-
ity of misunderstanding of properties involved.
