October 15, 1947
The City Council met in regular session October 15, 1947 with the following present..
Mayor Langford; Councilmen Badge22, Black, Brown, Harrington and Orr; City Secretary
McGinnis; City Engineer Benson; and City Manager Vaughn.
The following visitors were present at the meeting: F. B. Clark, Coulter Hoppess,
John Rowlett, Seth Hazle and Mr. & Mrs. 6orbe~.
The following Resolution was passed ~hanking the Czechoslovakian Agricultural and
Good Will Club for their contribution to ~he City Cemetery Fund. To date, two
$25.00 donations have been received from the Club and the Council pledged itself to
use these, and £u~ure contributions, for the maintenance and beautification of the
Cemetery.
RESOLUTION
WHE~S, the Cecho Slovanky Hospodarky a Dobrociny Spolek (Czechoslovakian
Agricultural and Good Will Club) has been organized for over sixty years and has
during this period contributed a great deal to the social and material benefit of
the community; and
WHEREAS, said Club owns and maintains a meeting place called Shiloh Hall; and
¥ff~tEAS, the said Club derives certain revenues for the use of said Hall toward the
maintenance of the Shiloh Cemetery; and
WHEREAS, the City of College Station has by gift and purchase obtained the Shiloh
Cemetery and has assumed the obligation of maintenance in said cemetery; and
WHEREAS, the said Club, through its President Joe Pasyler, Treasurer Emma Krenek
and Secretary Rosie Krenek has evidenced its desire to continue the said Clubs
original purpose of community development by contributions of its surplus monies
to the College Station Cemetery, said funds to be used for the maintenance of said
cemetery;
NOW THEREFORE be it resolved by the City Council of the City of College Station,
Texas,
That in grateful appreciation the City Council unanimously accepts the generous
offer of the Cecho Slovanky Hospodarky a Dobroeiny Spolek and pledges that all
such monies will be used only for the maintenance and beautification of the
College Station Cemetery.
Dr. F. B. Clark came before the Council and requested that the platting of a sub-
division south of the city limits, under his sponsorship, be approved for
recording. Councilman Orr made a motion that the City Council approve the platting
when it receive~ the approval of the City Planning Commission. This motion was
seconded by Councilman Brown and the vote was unanimous in favor of the motion.
Mr. Coulter Hoppess, attorney from Bryan, and Mr. Seth Hazle of the Land Department
of the Sinclair Pipe Line Company discussed with the council the probabilities of
the City issuing a permit for a pipe line to pass through the city limits on the
west side of Old Highly ~. The Council requested that Mr. Hazle submit plans of
construetio~ and all right-of-way papers to the City Manager not less than five days
before the regular meeting of the Council in November.

~he Council referre~ the request of Mr. J. C. Culpepper to revise the zoning of
the Fourth Installment of College Hills which was included in Ordinance No. 99
to the City Zoning Commission.
The Council referred ~he request of Mr. & Mrs. Gorbe~ that a certain section on
Main Street be rezoned to permit the erection of ap~artment buildings to the
City Zoning Commission.
The Council referred the request of Guy F. Boyett, Jr. ~hat a change in the zoning
ordinance be made to permit the erection of sheet iron building on an iron frame
in District ~o~ Five to the City Zoning Commission.
The Mayor appointed a committee composed of F. J. Benson, S. J. Buchanan, E. E.
Williams and G. F. Boye~t, Sr. ~o draft a City ordinance containing all the
provisions of the Uniform Traffic Code recently passed by ~he Texas Legislature.
This committee was appointed at the request of Mr. J. S. Hopper.
The City Manager was instructed to prepare a complete report of the City Zoning
Commission %o be presented to the Council at the next regular meeting.
The City Manager was instructe~ to obtain all data necessary for presenting to
the R. E. A. officials in Washington substantiating the City' s claims in the
purchasing the power lines in College Hills. He was also instructed to mmke
arrangements through the office of Congressman 01in Te&gue for an appointment
with the R. E. A. officials.
The City Manager was instructed to inform the business men in the North Gate
area that on and after November 1, 1~47, the garbage in this area will be taken
from garbage cans only and the garbage dump in ~he back of the stores will be
discontinued on tha~ date.
