Halter City of College Station P.O. Box 9960 College Station, TX 77840 Jear Mayor Halter: It has, for several years, been standard operating procedure to criticize various police departments and officers - as long as the comments were "bad." I think, though, that a pat on the back is due our College Station Police and Fire departments, so I'm sending one. On Saturday, September 20th of this year, I called the Police aispatcher to report a car-truck collision on the corner of Park Place and Montclair. I was asked if there were any injuries, to which I re- plied I didn't know, but that a child was screaming. I glanced at my watch, just in case someone needed to know the time of the collision, and ran out to see if first aid was needed. Within - meaning in less than - three minutes, an ambulance and two patrol cars arrived. Having lived in various places other than College Station, I know that this is an amazingly short length of time for answering a call. I am impressed and grateful. I was also impressed, by the way, when I observed one of the officers at the scene, after everything was taken care of and everyone had left the scene, sweeping the broken glass from tne road. It seems like a small thing, but it no doubt saved someone (if not several someones) from punctured tires and/or feet. There are ~ IrC uf u~refcuL ~;lildr'u~l ill C;l~ dred. Again, I am impressed and grateful, and wanted to take a minute to let you know and to thank the CSPD and Fire Department. Keep up the good work, guys!
