Visitors present: Bill Weishmeyer, Consulting Engineer with Homer Hunter Associates; Mr. Wortham with Department of Housing and Urban Development. A special meeting of the city council was called for the purpose of opening bids on the one -million gallon elevated water tank. Bill Weishmeyer, Consulting Engineer with Homer Hunter Associates, read the bid from the Bering Tank Company, Dallas, in the amount of $229, 000. 00, acknowledging receipt of Addendum #l; the Chicago Bridge & Iron Company, Houston, in the amount of $269, 990. 00, acknowledging receipt of Addendum #1; and the Pittsburgh -Des Moines Steel Company, Dallas, in the amount of $254, 190. 00, acknowledging receipt of Addendum #1. Mr. Weishmeyer stated that the amount for the construction of the water tank was estimated to be $235, 000. 00. He related that the completion deadline on the tank was based on the number of calendar days which is fixed by the bid form, being 250 days. After a review of the bids, Mr. Weishmeyer stated that the city could accept the proposal as given by the bidders or reject them. However, he recommended to the council that they accept the low bid of $229, 000. 00 by the Bering Tank Company. In consideration of the bids it was determined that no bidder would give a five-year guarantee on the internal or external paint job on the water tower. All were for one year only. In addition, it was determined that the Bering Tank Company had not previously constructed five tanks of equal capacity to the city's needs as stipulated in the bid specifications. Following a discussion with the bidders present, the council waived the exceptions cited and, on motion by Councilman Boyett, seconded by Councilman Rhodes, the low bid on the Bering Tank Company in the amount of $229, 000. 00 was accepted, pending approval of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Motion carried. On motion by Councilman Adams, seconded by Councilman Cooley, the agreement with the Texas Highway Department for the construction of Jersey Street and authorizing payment of $20, 500. 00 as the city's share was passed and approved. Motion passed. Councilman Adams related his desire for a fire alarm system in his building that could be tied in with the A&M Fire and Police dispatching office. He stated that he talked with Mr. Parsons of the Building and Utilities Department concerning the matter and was ad- vised that their policy would not permit this arrangement. He brought this matter up merely to acquaint the council with the situation as it now exists. Meeting adjourned subject to call. ATTEST:oi%as all'ecre rD. A.
