HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/12/1967 - Special Minutes - City CouncilMINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING June 12, 1967 Members present: Mayor pro tem Holt; Councilmen Rosprim, Boyett, Cooley, Adams, Rhodes; City Manager Boswell; City Attorney Dillon. Visitors present: Wayne Allan, U. D. Havelka, Margaret Adams, C. H. Ransdell. A public hearing was called on Ordinance No. 522, an ordinance providing for street improvements for the 1967 fiscal year, for the purpose of hearing any mistakes and irregularities, that may be corrected. Mr. Wayne Allan, a resident of 304 W. Dexter, stated that he was not in favor of paving Kerry Street, as designated in Ordinance 522, because he felt that it would be a traffic hazard to pedestrians. He felt that the city tax money could be spent for a better cause. He stated that after taking another petition of the citizens that owned property facing the street, it was found that 57.99% were not in favor of paving Kerry Street. U. D. Havelka, a resident of 401 Fairview, stated that he was previously in favor of paving Kerry Street and had signed the petition for it, but after reconsidering, decided against it. Mr. Ransdell stated that he was in favor of paving Kerry Street because it would solve certain drainage problems and as the money for the paving was already obligated, it would be in order. . On motion by Councilman Adams, seconded by Councilman Rosprim, Kerry Street was requested to be withdrawn from the 1967 paving program. Councilmen Rhodes, Cooley, Boyett and Rosprim voted no. Motion failed to carry. On motion by Councilman Boyett, seconded by Councilman Rhodes, Ordinance No. 524, closing a public hearing and laying assessments for the part of the cost of improving streets, was passed and approved. Motion carried. On motion by Councilman Adams, seconded by Councilman Rhodes, the bid from Cade Motor Company in the amount of $2, 689.75 for a 4 -door sedan car and the bid from International Harvester in the amount of $3, 863. 64 for a 3/4 ton pick up truck and 1/2 ton pick up truck was passed and approved. Motion carried. The council was adjourned subject to call.
