HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/27/1966 - Regular Minutes - City CouncilMINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING June 27, 1966 Members present; Mayor Anderson; Councilmen Holt, Boyett, Rhodes, Adams, Rosprim, Cooley; City Attorney Don Dillon; City Engineer North Bardell; City Manager Ran Boswell. Visitors present: R. R. Bailey, Shary Brown, Sam Ledbetter, Eddie Thompson, Raymond H. Becerril, Ulman McMullen, E. E. Burns, Tommy Preston, W. D. Fitch. The minutes of previous special meetings of June 10 and 13 were passed and approved as submitted to the council. A public hearing was called for consideration of Ordinance No. 170, an ordinance levying assessment for a part of the cost of improving portions of Milner Drive, Gilchrist Avenue, Foster Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, Park Place Street and Boyett Street. There being no discussion, the mayor declared the public hearing closed. On motion by Councilman Holt, seconded by Councilman Rhodes, Ordinance No. 470 was passed and approved. A public hearing was called for consideration of the 1966-67 budget. There being no public discussion the mayor declared the public hearing closed. On motion by Councilman Rhodes, seconded by Councilman Rosprim, Ordinance No. 471, an ordinance adopting the 1966-67 budget was passed and approved. On motion by Councilman Holt, seconded by Councilman Boyett, Ordinance No. 472, an ordinance levying taxes for the use and support of the municipal government of the City of College Station and providing for the interest and sinking fund for the year 1966-67 and apportioning each levy for the specific purpose was passed and approved. On motion by Councilman Boyett, seconded by Councilman Rhodes, Ordinance No. 473, an ordinance receiving certain territory adjoining the limits of the City into and incorporating the same as a part of the City of College Station, Texas was passed and approved. On motion by Councilman Adams, seconded by Councilman Rhodes, Ordinance No. 474, an ordinance accepting the work for improving portions of Ashburn Avenue, Puryear Drive, James Parkway, Gilchrist Avenue, West Dexter Drive, Hereford Street and Timber Street was passed and approved. A resolution concerning social security coverage for policemen was sub- mitted to the council by Mayor Anderson for its approval. On motion by Council- man Boyett, seconded by Councilman Rosprim, the resolution was adopted for this purpose, On motion by Councilman Holt, seconded by Councilman Rosprim, Ordinance No. /4.66, an ordinance granting the Midwest Video Corporation a franchise for a period of ten years was passed on its second reading. 00925 / Minutes of Regular Meeting June 27, 1966, Page 2 City Engineer Bardell presented to the council the proposed plan for the construction of the extension of Anderson and Leacrest Streets and the construction of County Road intersecting Anderson Street. An informal meeting was called by the mayor for June 30, 1966 at 7:00 p. m. The meeting was adjourned subject to call. APPROVED: Mayor ATTEST: City Secretary RESOLUTION THE STATE OF TEXAS COUNTY OF BRAZOS WHEREAS, Section 218(p) of Title II of the Federal Social Security Act has been amended to permit participation of policemen in positions covered by a retirement system, and WHEREAS, the policemen of the City of College Station through committee representation, have requested this Council to ask the Texas State Department of Public Welfare to hold an election by the policemen of said City of College Station who are members of the Texas Municipal Retirement System to determine whether or not they wish to have Federal Old Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance coverage in addition to the existing retirement system; NOW, THEREFORE, in order to meet the requirements of Section 218(p) of Title II of the Federal Social Security Act, as amended, this Council requests the Texas State Department of Public Welfare to hold as expeditiously as possible a referendum of the policemen, members of the retirement system, as required in said law and in House Bill 603, Acts of the 52nd Legislature of the State of Texas, 1951.
