0 A public hearing was called for consideration of Ordinance "9, an ordinance
M rezoning certain areas within the city limits. There being no discussion, the
mayor declared the public hearing closed.
On motion by Councilman Holt, seconded by Councilman Orr, Ordinance No. 4A.9
was passed and approved.
A public hearing was called for consideration of Ordinance No. 450, an
ordinance rezoning certain areas within the city limits. There being no discussion,
the mayor declared the public hearing closed.
On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Holleman, Ordinance
No. 450 was passed and approved.
A public hearing was called for consideration of Ordinance No. 451, an
ordinance rezoning certain areas within the city limits. There being no dis-
cussion, the mayor declared the public hearing closed.
On motion by Councilman Rhodes, seconded by Councilman Holt, Ordinance No.
451 was passed and approved.
U On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Boyett, Ordinance No.
4522 an ordinance ordering a municipal election for April 5, 1966 was passed
and approved.

On motionmotion by Councilman Holleman, seconded by Councilman Orr, the hour of
5:00 p.m., April 71 1966, was set for a special meeting of the council to canvass
the returns of the municipal election of April 5, 1966.

Mr,, Robert Schleider of the office of the District Engineer of the TexasU)
Highway Department discussed the question of median strips within the city limits,
more particularly those median strips which have to do with left turns into the
CL College Hills area. After considerable discussion, on motion by Councilman Orr,
seconded by Councilman Rhodes, the mayor was authorized to appoint a committee
to work with the city officials and representatives of the State Highway Depart -
D ment in arriving at a satisfactory solution to this question. The mayor appointed
0 Councilmen Holt and Rhodes as a committee to represent the city council in this
0 study.
On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Holt, the proposal of
the B - W Construction Company in the amount of $4509,45 for the construction of
a bridge across Bee Creek was accepted, and the mayor authorized to sign same
for the city.

On motion by Councilman. Holleman, seconded by Councilman Rhodes, the
preliminary plat of the resubdivision of the lots S and 9, Block B, of Carter's
Grove subdivision was approved and the mayor authorized to sign same for the
city.
On motion by Councilman Holt, seconded by Councilman Holleman, the prelimi-
nary plat of the Glade, Section 10, was approved and the mayor authorized to sign
same for the city.
The city attorney was instructed to prepare an ordinance amending Ordinance
No. 424 to permit a four-hour parking limit on the south side of FM 60 between
Tauber and Nagle streets.
Dr, E. E. Burns, chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission, presented
recommendations to the council for certain street and road improvements within
br adjacent to the city. Briefly, the recommendations of the committee are as
follows:
STREET AND ROAD IMPROVEMENTS
1. County Road --extended from Glade Street to Highway 6.
2, Extension of Park Place to Anderson (wide right-of-way):
A. Connect Holick Street to Park Place
B. Possibility of Glade being one way away from school to
Park Place.
3. Anderson Street --extended to border school property and connect
with County Road.
4. Village Street --extended to Anderson Street.
5. Connect Glade to Highway 6.
6. Expand Jersey Street to four lanes plus left -turn storage
from Highway 6 to'Wellborn Road.
7. Spring Green --extended to Anderson.
S. Haines Street --extended to Highway 6 with 60 -foot or larger
right-of-way.
Following considerable discussion, on motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by
Councilman Holt, the council ordered that the extension of County Road from Glade
Street to Highway 6 and of Park Place to Anderson be given priority, and that
these extensions be given careful study in the preparation of the fiscal budget
in preparation of the city budget for -the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1966.
On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Holleman, the city
manager was instructed to confer with the president of Texas A & M University
in the matter of working out an agreement whereby traffic along the extension
of Jersey Street may have access through to Easterwood Airport along existing
streets and roads.

On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Holt, the city manager
was authorized to secure an option for the right-of-way involved in an exterid.ion
of Park Place to Holick Drive, and to grant no permit for construction on said
0 property until the city has exercised its option.
M Mayor Langford made the fallowing statement relative to his not being a
candidate for re-election to the office of mayor:
Come the municipal election of next April 5, I will have devoted
more than twenty-seven years to the welfare of the city of College
Station, For twenty-four of those years I will have served as
mayor --an honor for which I fail to find words to express my
appreciation. I feel that the time has come to pass the responsi-
bility of that office to other hands and therefore take this
occasion to state that I will not be a candidate for re-election
next April. College Station has come a long way in those twenty-
seven years. There is still much to be done. The simple fact
that I am relinquishing the office of mayor in no way means
that my interest in the city's growth and development is coming
to an end. The future is too important for any citizen to
adopt that attitude.

Following the mayor1s announcement, on motion by Councilman Orr, seconded
by Councilman Holt, the council expressed to Mr. Langford its appreciation for
his long years of unselfish and untiring efforts in behalf of the city of
College Station.
Councilman Holleman and former Councilman D. A. Anderson announced that

they would be candidates for the office of mayor at the April 51 1966 election,
