I want to express my appreciation to the people of Ward 1 for supporting me for over 25 years. I tender my resignation as of this moment. My reasons for resigning are fourfold: First, so that I may actively support Mr. T. R. Holleman for mayor. He has had both educational and practical experience, and has the ability to get along with people of all races. Second, to help prevent the development of constroversy between wards. A unified city is absolutely essential. Third, so that a young energetic council member can be elected who can help more effectively than I to unify the present council. ® Fourth, I have served with Mayor Langford for well over 25 years on this council, and I know of no better time to resign than when the mayor for whom I have the utmost respect and affection retires. 1 00906 ` ; LTJ C. Minutes of Regular Meeting March 28, 1966, Page 2 0 In accepting Councilman Orr's resignation, the mayor made the following M statement; I am sure that it is with reluctance that this council accepts the resignation of Mr. Orr. If there is any citizen of the city of College Station to whom this council owes a debt of gratitude, that debt is owed to Mr. Orr, We will never know how ;aany hours he has spent in checking out surveys, establishing corners of property in dispute, surveying boundaries of extensions of city limits --all of which he has done with meticulous care and for which he has received not one cent of remuneration. His wisdom and counsel will be missed in the deliberations of this body. On motion by Councilman Holt, seconded by Councilman Boyett, the remarks of the mayor relative to Councilman Orr's resignation were made a part of these minutes. The mayor reminded the council that a special meeting of the council will be held at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, April 7, to canvass the results of the municipal election of April 5, 1966.
