HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/23/1966 - Special Minutes - City CouncilI t� CL 9 i s� Z W V) W 6 0 0 M MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING August 23, 1966 Members present: Mayor Anderson; Councilmen Holt, Boyett, Rhodes, Adams, Cooley; City Manager Boswell; City Secretary Richardson Visitors present: Ernest Brown As a basis for securing funds needed to provide for the financing of the proposed bond issue of the water distribution system, Councilman Holt moved that, for residences, the minimum water rate for the first 1, 000 gallons be increased from $1. 00 to $1. 75; that the sewer charge be increased from a minimum of $1. 50 to $1. 75; that the garbage charge be increased from $1. 00 to $1. 50; and that the minimum commercial rates for sewer services be increased $0. 25 and garbage fees be increased $1. 50 per month for small commercial, and for large commercial $2. 50 per month, it being understood that the additional monies needed, approximating $16, 000, would come from increased profit from power and water sales. Councilman Rhodes seconded the motion. Motion passed. Ordinance No. 478 making the Bryan Daily Eagle the official newspaper of the city of College Station was passed on motion by Councilman Holt and by second of Councilman Cooley. Ernest Brown of Moroney, Beissner & Co. of Houston discussed with the council the procedures involved in the connection with the issuance of bonds, submitting to the council a proposed ordinance calling for an election on the issuance of bonds. On motion by Councilman Cooley, seconded by Councilman Rhodes, Ordinance No. 479 calling for a special election on the bond issue was passed. Date set for the election was September 17, 1966, with official notices to appear in the Bryan Daily Eagle August 26 and September 2. It was agreed by the council that the mayor will send out a letter to all citizens of the city on the bond issue at the earliest possible date, supplemented with periodic news releases.
