June 24, 1963
Members Present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Boyett, Rosprim, Orr, Landiss
Rhodes; City Attorney Sandstedt, City Manager Boswell.
Visitors Present: F. B. Clark, C. E. Gregory, Jim O'Brien, W. B. Lancaster,
W. P. Worley, E. L. Whiteley.
City Secretary Manning was excused from attending this meeting.
After a public hearing on Ordinance No. 371, on motion by Councilman
Landiss, seconded by Councilman Orr, Ordinance No. 375, an ordinance closing
public hearing and levying assessment for part of the cost of improving
certain streets within the City of College Station, was passed and approved.
On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Rosprim, the city
manager was authorized to make a payment of $7,000 on a $35,000 note with
the College Station State Bank, and the mayor authorized to renew the note
in the amount of $28,000.
On motion by Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Orr, the city
attorney was instructed to prepare an ordinance changing the name of Marie
B. Haines Drive to Haines Drive South.
On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Landiss, the city
manager was instructed to prepare plans, specifications, etc., for improving
Caudill Street from Winding Road to the South Knoll, and to include such
construction as the first item in the 1963-64 budget.
The city attorney was instructed to prepare an ordinance regulating
all-night parking of vehicles in business districts and parking of commercial
vehicles in residential districts.
Dr. F. B. Clark raised the question of alleged indebtedness by the city
to him for certain improvements in the South Knoll, claiming as a reason for
such indebtedness that Ordinance No. 210 does not apply in this case. After
some disoussion of the matter, the city attorney was instructed to review
this question in detail and to file with the council an opinion of the city's
position in this matter.
The council adjourned subject to call.
