HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/23/1961 - Regular Minutes - City CouncilMINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING January 23, 1961 Members present: Mayor Langford; City Manager Boswell; City Attorney Dillon; Councilmen Sorrels, Boyett, Orr, Anderson, Landiss and Smith Visitors present: Mr. J. R. Combs; representative from Bryan Eagle, Col. F. H. Mathews City Secretary Manning was granted permission to be excused from the meeting. The council commended the report of the committee on Key Rate Study and requested that certain other information be made available: (1) Probable total amount of insurance carried by the citizens of College Station; (2) Increase and decrease in cost on the various items recommended by the State Board of Insurance; (3) A more comprehensive explanation of what constitutes combustible roofs in residential sections. The city manager was directed to write to the State Board of Insurance outlining steps which have been taken to comply with the board's letter dated July 27, 1960. Mr. John R. Combs director of the A. & M. Wesley Foundation appeared be- fore the council to request the abandonment of an alley extending from Tauber Street to an alley some 100 feet east of Tauber Street. On motion by Council- man Orr, seconded by Councilman Landiss, the council agreed to abandon and close the alley upon the following conditions: (1) That the Wesley Foundation bear the expense of relocating the sewer line presently existing in the alley: (2) that the Foundation file with the city manager a commitment to set aside part of Lot 3, Block 5, Tauber Addition for parking purposes. The city manager was authorized to discuss with property owners on Cooner Street the question of improving that street in terms of the existing policy governing street improvements. The city manager was directed to contact the A. & M. Consolidated School Board relative to the board's having prepared a plat of that portion of the property facing on Gilchrist Aveneu which the board proposes to sell. The city manager reported that an amount of $6,200.00 remains outstand- ing in assessments for improvements on Walton Drive and Kyle Avenue. The city manager was directed to instruct the police force to make every effort to correct illegal.'. parking on the streets of the city. The city manager was directed to investigate alleged unsanitary conditions existing in Pasler Addition. In the event such conditions cannot be alleviated by agreement, the city attorney is directed to file charges in keeping with Ordi- nance No. 55. 09?21 21 :?-t; 3 W V7 W 0_ Cb 2 D 0C O O 00 Page 2 Minutes of Meeting, Jan. 23, 1961 The city manager reported that some twenty residents still have not con- nected their premises with the sanitary sewer system. The city attorney was di- rected to prepare the necessary charges to see that these connections are made in compliance with Ordinance No. 55. The council adjourned, subject to call.
