A RESOLUTION ORDERING A NON-BINDING SURVEY OF THE ELECTORATE
OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS, ON THE QUESTION OF
THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A PUBLIC LIBRARY.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of College Sta-
tion has expressed an interest in the establishment of a
public library for the citizens of this city; and,
WHEREAS, on the 10th of October, 1984, the College Sta-
tion City Council determined to create an ad hoc committee
to study the feasibility of locating a library in College
Station; and,
WHEREAS, on the 8th of November, 1984, the College Sta-
tion City Council appointed members to a Library Committee
to study this matter and to return some recommendations to
the Council; and,
WHEREAS, on the 13th of February, 1985, the report of
the Library Committee was received by the City Council, and
the recommendation of the Committee was that a branch of the
Bryan Public Library be established in College Station, to
be funded from the budget of the City of College Station;
and,
WHEREAS, it has been determined that the funding for a
public library in the City of College Station may require an
increase of approximately two cents (2~) in the tax rate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of College Station that a non-binding survey of the
electorate be made on the following question:
SHOULD THE CITY GOVERNMENT ESTABLISH A
PUBLIC LIBRARY WITHIN COLLEGE STATION
(understandinG that this might increase
property taxes by about two cents (2~)
per $100.00 of assessed valuation)?

This question shall be added to the ballot of the city elec-
tion to be held on the 6th day of April, 1985 as ordered by
City Ordinance No. 1572, passed and approved on the 14th day
of February, 1985.
Preceding the question as it is printed on the ballot of
April 6, 1985, the following statement shall appear:
