WHEREAS, the economic condition of this community is of primary
concern to all citizens; and,
WHEREAS, the City of College Station, Texas, and the Texas A&M
University System have expressed their joint desire to
re-vitalize this area and to design and build for a
bright future; and,
WHEREAS, both entities acknowledge that this challenge cannot be
successfully met, this goal cannot be fully reached
except through a spirit of wholehearted support and
unstinted cooperation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS,
THAT the program to attract research and development, as initi-
ated by the Board of Regents of Texas A&M, is a viable way to
provide economic stimulation and to bring widespread attention
not only to College Station but also to the State of Texas;
THAT this Council knows that the Board of Regents made land
available for a proposed site for a Douglas Aircraft plant and
the Board voiced its intention to extend utilities to the site,
and the Council recognizes with appreciation the steadfast com-
mitment being made by the Board of Regents to the advancement
of this project;
AND, THAT it is advantageous to the City ot College Station that
this project be fully developed and that the City endorse this
effort, record at this time its support, and assist this program
by authorizing the Mayor of College Station, Texas, to enter
into an agreement whereby the City of College Station will pro-
vide extension of a roadway from FM Highway 60 to the proposed
site.
