~LUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE BRAZOS VALLEY SUPERCONDUCTING SU-
PER COLLIDER FOUNDATION EFFORTS TO LOCATE THE SUPERCONDUCTING
PER COLLIDER IN BURLESON COUNTY, TEXAS
WHEREAS,
the President of the United States has pledged to buil~
a high-energy research accelerator to be known as the
Superconducting Super Collider; and
WHEREAS,
the United States Department of Energy has announced
the selection process for a site on which to build the
Superconducting Super Collider; and
WHEREAS,
WHEREAS,
WHEREAS,
the Governor of the great State of TEXAS has dedicated
his efforts to locate the Superconducting Super Colli-
der within the State of TEXAS; and
Burleson County was included as the East Central Texas
Site in the study of a site selection task force from
consortium of Texas Universities to analyze the feasi-
bility and potential benefits of locating the SSC in
Texas; and
the Brazos Valley Superconducting Super Collider Foun-
dation was formed with the intent of concentrating ef-
forts and resources to locate the SSC in Burleson
ty, Texas and
WHEREAS,
the City of College Station, Texas, realizes that the
selection of the Burleson County site will impact not
only Burleson County but also the surrounding counties
and cities, including the City of College Station; and
WHEREAS,
the City Council of the City of College Station, Texas
did meet on April 8, 1987, and commit funding support
to the project undertaken by the Brazos Valley Super-
conducting Super Collider Foundation; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED that the City of College Station, Texas, hereby
supports the Brazos Valley Superconducting Super Collider Founda-
tion and, further, endorses the choice of Burleson County as the
site for the Superconducting Super Collider.
