William "King" Cole was a very capable,
considerate, honest, and innovative public
official who served as College Station city
manager from 1985 to 1988; and,
City Manager Cole possessed a statewide
reputation for excellence, the ability to
inspire the "best" in those around him, and an
insistence upon professionalism from his
subordinates, who responded with their loyalty
and respect; and,
City Manager Cole was a leader with rare
perception and vision; his tenure in College
Station was marked by worthy procedures
dedicated to the best interest of the
community; and, under his direction, a
reorganization of the municipal staff was
effected and significant city milestones were
achieved; and,
to express their high regard for the life and
accomplishments of William "King" Cole, to
render official cognizance of his service, and
to provide an enduring memorial of his
contributions to the welfare of this
municipality, the Mayor and City Council of
College Station desire to name a location in
the city for him; and,
the College Station Police Complex, a major and
exemplary municipal project, was completed
during William "King" Cole's tenure; further,
City Manager Cole placed special emphasis upon
the development of a highly qualified police
department; therefore, it is appropriate that
the drive by the Complex become the W. King
Cole Drive.

NOW, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF COLLEGE STATION, that the drive adjacent to the
College Station Police Complex henceforth shall be known
as
W. King Cole Drive
and that as a further mark of respect, this Resolution
shall be made a part of the official records of the city,
and that an official copy, signed by the mayor and all
council members, shall be presented to the Cole family.
