Whereas, the City
encouraging educational
professional development;
of College Station believes in
achievement for personal and
Whereas, Educational Incentive Pay in both the Police
and Fire professions is a recognized means of promoting
achievement; and
Whereas, the City of College Station wishes to recognize
professional certification and job-related degrees through an
incentive pay program;
NCW THEREFORE BE ITRESC~V~D that the City of College
Station hereby adopts the "Educational Incentive Pay" policy,
attached, as a part of the City of College Station Personnel
Handbook.

EDUCATI(IqAL INCENTIVE PAY
In order to be competitive and to provide incentive to encourage the
development and retention of a professional Fire and Police Force by
raising the standards of promotional qualifications.
Eliqibilit¥
All regular, full-time sworn Police Officers or Certified Firefighters
and Paramedics are eligible to receive certification incentive pay for
those steps above the required basic certification.
General Provisions
Upon completion of a recognized certification course or a degree in
a law enforcement or fire science program from an accredited
institution of higher learning the following would apply:
For Police: (TCLFX]6E)
Intermediate Certificate or an Associate's degree
in a Law Enforcement related field
$50/mo
Advanced Certificate or a Bachelor's degree
in a Law Enforcement related field
$75/mo
For Fire: (Commission on Fire Protection)
Intermediate Certificate or an Associate's degree
in a Fire Science related field

in a Fire Science related field
$50/mo
$75/mo
Application must be made to the Chief together with a certified
transcript from the Registrar 's Office of the institution from which the
degree was obtained and/or a copy of the certificate issued by either
TCLEOSE or the Conmission on Fire Protection. The Chief will approve the
job relatedness of the degree. If the job relatedness is questionable the
application will be forwarded to the Pay Plan Review Committee for their
reccm~nendation.
The employee will receive pay for either a certificate or a degree but not
both and will receive the higher of the two.
