HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-10-89-03 - Resolution - 08/10/1989RESOLUTION NO. 08-10-89-03 A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OF A TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS REGIONAL REINTEGRATION FACILITY. WHEREAS, The State of Texas and the Texas Department of Corrections has a need for additional correctional facilities; and WHEREAS, one of those facilities is to be a 2,250-man maximum security facility, providing direct employment of approximately 800 persons and an average monthly payroll of $1,400,000; and, WHEREAS, one of the new facilities is to be a 1,000-man regional reintegration medium security center located in an area that will supply the resources needed, such as medical care and opportunities for education; this facility would enhance the overall mission of the Texas Department of Corrections, and would have 260 direct employees and an average monthly payroll of $460,000; and, WHEREAS, the economic benefits generated by the location of one of these facilities in this region would be felt throughout the Brazos Valley; the indirect employment in service-related business would increase local employment, and new jobs would add to the per capital wealth of the overall area. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of College Station, Texas, recognizes and endorses the need for such a facility and further endorses and expresses its supports for the construction of that facility within Burleson County.
