HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/08/1950 - Regular Minutes - City CouncilMINUTES OF COUNCIL MEETING May 8, 1950 The City Council met in regular session May g, 1950 at 7:30 p.m. with the following present: Councilmen Ames, Badgett, Black, Fitch, Halpin, and Orr; City Secretary McGinnis; City Attorney Barger; City Manager Rogers, and Assistant City Secretary Boswell. Due to the absence of May Langford, Mayor Pro -Tem Orr presided at ihis meeting of the Council. Councilman Badgett made a motion, seconded by Councilman Fitch, that the letters of May lst and May 5th received from Mr. Thomason, City Manager of Bryan, pertaining to power and water contracts between the City of Bryan and the City of College Station, be filed. The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion. Councilman Badgett made a motion, seconded by Councilman Fitch, that when the statement of Mr. Hunter for engineering services rendered on the North Area Sewer Project is found to be correct that the sun of $283.43 be paid Mr. Hunter. The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion. Councilman Badgett made a motion, seconded by Councilman Black, that Ordinance No. 144, an ordinance pertaining to the discharging of firearms within the city limits of the City of College Station, be adopted. The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion. Councilman Halpin made a. motion, seconded by Councilman Badgett, that the Council employ a competent person to re -work all City Ordinances, under the supervision of the City Attorney, and make recommendations as to revisions, additions, deletions, and codification. The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion. Councilman Halpin made a motion, seconded by Councilman Ames, that the City Council rescind Ordinance No. 130, an ordinance pertaining to double charge for utilities supplied by the City outside of the city limits. The vote of the Council was: For the motion: Councilmen Halpin, Ames, and Black; against the motion: Councilmen Fitch, Badgett, and Orr. Councilman Halpin made a motion, seconded by Councilman Fitch, that a "Town Meeting" be held on Monday, May 22, 1950, at eight p.m. for the purpose of discussing the City's problems with the people. The place for this meeting will be determined by the city manager.. The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion. Councilman Badgett made a motion, seconded by Councilman Ames, that the Mayor appoint a committee of three citizens who will employ a competent engineer to make a complete anplysis of our power problem and make recommendations as to possible solutions. The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion. 003 3? XJ Page --2 Minutes of Regular Meeting May 81 1950 The Council instructed City Attorney Barger to press charges against violators of Ordinance No. 134, an ordinance pertaining to the keeping of livestock and chickens within the city limits. The City Attorney was also instructed to employ the best of legal help obtainable, iK necessary, to prosecute the offenders. Action on Mrs. Redmond's account was deferred until after the Town Meeting. Councilman Ba.dgett made a motion, seconded by Councilman Halpin, that the Council appoint Dr. J. E.
